I'm itching to spray all this clover right now. Wait or spray now?

Takes a little longer to work when you do but still effective. We used to do that for fence lines. I wouldn't spray it in my yard- it'll kill pert near everything.

Really, spray whenever you want except when dealing with fertilizer. Spray a good 7-10 days (minimum) before you put out any fertilizer. You want that clover to be good and dead before you fertilize or else parts of it will pull through. Mixing with roundup is a good way to get grass/broad leaf coverage. Additionally, you will get better rain coverage. Generally, you want 12 hours (minimum) w/o rain with 2,4-D. Mixing with roundup can knock it down to 30 min. Don't put roundup/2,4-D mix on your yard. Be careful around ponds/creeks etc. 2,4-D isn't good for the fishies/amphibians. I know it's restricted use in some places.

In areas where cotton is grown there are some tight restrictions certain times of the year. Don't recall the specifics though.

May 1st I think. Also, if you use a spray rig, you aren't supposed to use the same rig over cotton for other applications like mepiquat, or pyrethroids. Just the residue in the rubber lines will wilt and burn cotton like a mofo.

Didn't know that. Pretty stringent there.

I'm deep in cotton country up here in NWLA. I used to manage a seed/fertilizer/chemical warehouse and help my boss farm about 1500 acres. We were quite cavalier, but you can get in some shite if you smoke your neighbors crop. It will drift quite a distance so you have to play the wind and spray when you can.

Yeah a friend/neighbor pissed off everyone on the Parish years ago by planting the only cotton in it. Seems like I've heard 50 miles ain't out of the question on the drift. Sounds far but that number sticks in my mind.

I bet fricken so. Drift Retardant, playing the wind, and the new high-capacity sprayers with venturi nozzles make a farmer's life a lot easier. Using it with a little hand-held sprayer early in the morning will be fine for the original poster.

You can spray 2,4-D directly into water. TVA uses it by the 1000's of gallons to control milfoil on Lake Guntersville.

I've been spot treating clover all winter with 2,4-D. Works for me. I still have a few small patches but that's because my neighbors let their lawns become clover farms this time of year.

Many people spray directly onto water. In most places, you need to be a certified pesticide applicator. It's acceptable in particular situations, but not usually recommended.

Went ahead and sprayed last night. Will fertilize next week. I'm going to have a lush lawn this year if it kills me and if I have to kill my lawn boy not to scalp my grass.

Is this how I get rid of clover and other weeds in the grass?
