re: TE Kellen Davis visits Saints

From wiki

quote:

Davis was selected in the fifth round, 158th overall, by the Chicago Bears in the 2008 NFL Draft. He caught his first NFL pass (11 yards) and scored his first touchdown versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 20, 2009.

While he appeared in all 48 games in his first three seasons in the league, he was limited to 5 starts due to the presence of Greg Olsen on the roster, a 1st round draft pick in 2007.

Following the trade of Olsen to the Carolina Panthers in 2011, Davis became the starting tight end. He had 18 receptions for 206 yards and 5 touchdowns in the 2011 season.[5] The 18 receptions marked the first time in 17 years that a Bears tight end failed to record 20 catches.[6]

The production of Davis was argued to have been negatively affected by the offensive style of coordinator Mike Martz.

In 2012, Davis struggled with drops, and caught only 19 passes.[6] On March 13, 2013, he was released by the Bears.

Do not like this. I'd rather draft someone cheaper. If this happens I hope it's for the vet minimum.

47 receptions in 5 years.
Is he going to be a primary blocking TE or has he been under utilized in Chicago?

Edit, never mind my question, just read Hugo's post. Answered it for me...

There's no way this guy can be that expensive

You can't sign a player for less, so either you didn't know that or are suggesting he isn't worth signing.

I agree with the latter.

Edit:
Or I misunderstood and you meant he'll be cheap.

No kidding.

Good size and would be a great target for Drew at 6'7".

Hope he wants to play for a winning program.

I was saying this guy should be signed for somewhere around the league minimum.

I'd much rather get a cheap 5th round rookie stud O-lineman or DT than a rookie TE

However, I agree on not breaking Paddy's piggy bank over this guy

News!!!

On a serious note. We can't be offering anymore than Thomas was making, unless they just didn't feel good about his concussion/injury issue.

Also, the Pats released Brandon Lloyd. We should. Depending on money, obviously.

Some experts seem to think he's going to resign with the Pats for less.

For a #2 TE, I wouldnt mind Davis, at the right price. Hes got #1 experience and is a better blocker than he is at catching the ball, which is what we need. Plus, hes a big target and if he improves on his catching could become a somewhat threat.

I like Kelce a lot. 1 of my favorite guys in the draft. But, assuming we dont trade back, I dont want to take him with our #2 pick. We have bigger needs than TE at the moment.

Chicago fans booed him because he couldn't catch.
