Imagine the outrage in the black community had this piece been on the fading amount of white players in college football and college basketball. #doublestandard
To even write about this shite is enough to show why there will also be a split between white & black. I thought with Obama getting elected, that would be it, we can start getting over it, but no, they want more, in fact, they want everything, I guess next they will complain not enough water boys are black...

much harder to find a baseball park in the black communities than a BBall court.
This is what the guy says in the article but people want to call him racist.

the agenda is not about equality, but totality

I do think it is a problem for the sport that it has lost what used to be a large part of its audience going forward and a good chunk of its domestic talent base.
It is not an LSU baseball problem, but it is a baseball problem.
I think it is reflected in TV ratings. Same thing is starting to happen with hoops, I'm afraid. Both are becoming more niche, which is unfortunate.

the posters that have a problem with this article must not have even read the article. He wasn't knocking LSU or LSU baseball in any sort of way. Just read the fricking article before posting about the article.

it's actually a good article. It's factual and well written. He does use his own opinion but also backs it up.

Some people just need to feel slighted. Need to have something to complain about.

CPM should have not even had to have addressed this shite.

I can't believe we are even talking about this. Who gives a rats arse what color a kid is. Is he an athlete who can play well enough to start and win. Can he make grades good enough to stay in school and graduate. It's obvious from the mix in other team sports football, basketball etc that the only discrimination is in talent. You got talent you in, you don't well you are going to be discriminated against and not get to play. Take it up with the ACLU

Negro is no longer a socially acceptable word in the USA.

I'm not sure why anyone here is surprised by the raw racism that has dominated a thread that was, for the most part, factual as well as just repeating what is widely known to be true by any serious baseball fan. Just drop in to the Political Talk link & go thru any thread bout blacks, Jews, Arabs, Hispanics. Just glad that while many athletes LSU recruits do read the Tiger Rant, few if any ever drift over to that site. LSU fans are well represented in some of the more virulently racist posts. The article was most definitely not LSU. It just happened to be written by a black.

If that's your conclusion from reading the article, you aren't too perceptive.
The point is that black participation is down and that hurts the sport. I don't think it's good for baseball to see a decline in participation from a large chunk of the nation's population. Similarly, I think we're seeing a decline in participation in basketball from whites, at least from better athletes, which also hurts.
By that, I'm saying if I watch a typical mostly white high school basketball team, I'm seeing fewer of the school's best athletes on that team, the kids who would star (at the high school level, at least) on any of the teams they decide to concentrate on.

This lack of black baseball players is a national thing. The sport is not played in areas with high black populations like inner cities. It has also become a country club sport. It is very expensive to play as far as equipment, travel teams, etc.
