If they are suing the filmmakers for lack of historical accuracy I think they would have a case.

It's a movie. Who said it has to be historically accurate?

I'd like to sue Robert Zemeckis. Forrest Gump did not moon LBJ. It's demeaning to the glorious and proud nation of Allah-Bama.

This was what I was about to say as well.

If that occurs that opens the door to a whole lot of ridiculousness then. Are the Germans going to sue Quentin Tarantino for Inglorious Basterds and it's inaccuracies?

Smaller countries are always bat-shite crazy when it comes to news publicity or international sporting events - they really think everything hinges on public perception or that people in America really give a shite about Hollywood portrayals.

Rather, what's the injury?

Iran would have already had to have been held in high public regard or international opinion before this movie - and this movie would have had to been the sole reason for Iran's negative image - if indeed they could prove Argo was false and resulted in their negative reputation.

The article also says an Iranian woman submitted a film to the Oscars, but then decided to boycott over the youtube video that's demeaning to Muslims. The one that the WH blamed Benghazi on. The one that has absolutely nothing to do with Hollywood or the Oscars.

My favorite part of the article

Iran has a vibrant film scene, but it is strictly controlled by the government.

Depends on what is involved.

IIRC, the makers of The Hurricane got their asses sued off for changing stuff, in part because they had a scene where they claim Hurricane lost a boxing match via judge's decision because he was black instead of because the guy beat the living shite out of him.

Shouldn't they sue The Oscars if they are objecting against the film being awarded?

So a movie about getting six people out of revolutionary Iran is an "attack on humanity" but the real event of holding 52 people against their will for 444 days? Not so much. Thanks, Iran!
