You get rid of Loomis, you make Payton unhappy. Loomis is what he is- great with calculation and manipulating the cap. Nobody believes he has an eye for talent and his only role is not playing a role in talent evaluation or personnel decisions.

My point is, if you are good at evaluating talent, it is easier to manage your money.

Most GMs naturally are good financially, or hire someone that is good. Only a certain few are really good at eyeing talent. Most of whom are former players or long time scouts.

at the same time, it's not just the GM that's evaluating the talent. You honestly don't think GW had a say in the harper contract? It's a team based system, the GM isn't the only one who goes hmmm I think this guy is worth 8m, lets sign him for good ole sean.

We need better evaluation for defense players in general. The scouting department needs to do their job and we need to get a consistent coach in here that can develop these players from college standouts to above average pros. We've hit and developed numerous late rounders and replaced them willy nilly with no dropoff in offensive production. We can't seem to develop any defensive players to save our lives though.

The defense has not accumulated talent through the draft (Loomis' fault) and the offense is not exactly stockpiling talent either...as you lose guys like Goodwin, Nicks, Stinchcomb, Bushrod, Meachem leave and Loomis replaces them with De La Puente, Grubbs, Strief, Chrlie Brown and Joe Morgan.

the defense has accumulated talent, every round1 draft pick we got were all talented players in college. The difference is we have crap for coaches in developing those players into great defensive players. You think Pittsburg hits on every defensive player? No, dick lebeau and his staff develops defensive players EXTREMELY well. Look at who they field, they get talent and they get them to produce.

In regards to your "not stockpiling" offensive talent, we make a guy so good that he becomes so expensive we can't afford him. Goodwin and Nicks--> produced and earned a contract we can't afford any longer. Replaced with DLP and grubbs who are doing a hell of a job. Stinchcomb retired, bushrod does NOT cost 7m, he is a biproduct of brees' quick decision making and he was one of the lower rated LT's in the FA market. Meachem - look at him now, okay then. DLP - undrafted free agent, costs us next to nothing compared to goodwin, grubbs just as good in pass protection and almost as good as run blocking as nicks, but costs us less. Zach strief has always been serviceable, not loomis' fault that stinchcomb retired. Charles brown is a good RT, outside of that one Rams game and his injuries but how is that loomis' fault that he's injured often now. Joe morgan, once again undrafted and he blew up as a deep threat.

Loomis is the main decision maker. Fire some scouts, do something.

As far as Harper contract, one of the best traits of a good GM is foresight. Ozzie Newsome has been great at this. But it is much easier to do when you draft well. Cause you can let someone walk if you have a capable replacement. That is a winnig cycle.

In the end all must be put on the one guy truly responsible for it all...the owner.

But if nobody wants to talk about the elephant in the livingroom please by all means continue.

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways:

#1:
quote:

Sure, he has found some diamonds in the rough like Graham, PT, Moore, Gallette, Hicks and some guys who have been serviceable: Dave Thomas, Grubbs, Robinson, Casillas, Mack

How the hell did you leave Drew Brees off your list? Sean Payton? Sproles? Vilma? Every OL that has suited up for the Saints over the past 7 years? Sharper? Porter? Greer? All of these guys were entirely underrated and their arrival culminated in a Super Bowl. Speaking of which...

#2: He brought a championship to New Orleans. By rule, dude gets a night with my wife, and that offer does not expire.

#3: A little early to call Ingram a bust.

#4: The next two players on your list of "draft bombs" are 3rd and 4th round picks. Pretty weak.

#5: Speaking of weak evidence, Franklin was a 5th round draft pick who was given a 1 year deal with the Saints.

#6: The next several items on your list are absolute crap. Herring was a cheap special teamer given some occasional opportunities on defense. Rogers was given a 1-year contract. Pittman was a 3rd rounder who didn't make the team because the Saints gave some guy named Pierre Thomas a chance. Tennant was a 5th rounder. "Various other OL" is horsecrap - The Saints churn out OL studs on the reg. And finally, McBride's contract was negligible.

I'm sure these points have been made a bunch of times in this thread, but the OP offended me to such a degree that I had to respond immediately. But, in all fairness, this is exactly the type of input I expect from the handle of "TigerPimpNationTrank".

You owe me an apology.

yes, and he needs to take some notes from belichick, you pay on their performance potential in future years, not previous. Will smith, roman harper, sedrick ellis, and vilma should've been replaced the last couple of years. ESPECIALLY after that seattle one...
