Neither of these will be fun to shoot. I have yet to find a .380 that is fun to shoot.

9mm would be cheaper for a gun that is fun to shoot.

Why a .380? Space isn't at a premium stored in the car...

Sig p238 is the only 380 I'd own. I've tried a couple others and they were quite miserable to shoot.

Bodyguard is a CCW only. Not a range gun by any means. If you insist on a .380 range gun then get the Sig P238. I'd get a 9MM with extended mag for the range or even a Ruger SR22.

not dead set, but many say that's the best size to hide in a truck

both of those are great....but just range use would be cheaper to go with 380 over 9mm or larger right? there is even some 380 ammo still available...

I would love to own a PPK. The best looking pistol ever made IMHO.

9MM ammo is cheaper than 380 if you can find it.

Question the judgment of anyone who tells you that.....

There are lots of good 9mm handguns on the market for CCW, and some of them are only a little bigger than the .380s. I don't know why you would step down to the .380 if it's going to stay in the truck.

This. You can hide just about anything in a truck.

I really don't have a gun that's too big to stay in the truck. Heck, I have a shotgun and a pistol in there now.

That's absurd. I can hide a government model 1911 just as easily as a pocket gun...

Hell I have a shotgun in there that's hidden.

MM,
I suspect you've never shot any of the smaller 380's. That's ok. Anyone who has shot one would tell you:
380's are not as much fun to shoot as larger guns. This is a function of the type of guns most 380's are chambered in--ultra small and light guns that will fit in one's pocket. Pocket 380's have a LOT of muzzle flip to them.
380 range ammo is about 40% more expensive than is 9mm (using Wal-Mart Winchester White Box prices for comparison).
At the stores I've seen, 380 ammo is nearly as hard to find as is 9mm.

If you want a 380 for truck carry/range use only, get a bigger one that WILL be more enjoyable to shoot. In that case, I'd nominate the Bersa Thunder. The Sig 238/Colt Pocketlite are VERY nice guns, but to me they cost a lot of money for a range/truck gun.

For a truck gun, I'd get a serious self defense round, at least in 9mm.
