I've noticed that the older I've gotten the more sensitive my taste buds are towards onions. After eating a burger with white onion on it I get incredibly thirsty later.
What is the mildest raw onion you can eat?

Use red onions instead of white onions. They are milder and have a slight sweetness .

Sweet onions including Vidalia might be more your style, and you could also substitute shallots.

vidalias, helmans, black pepper on wheat makes a decent sammich... I would write out a recipe, and post pics,,, but do it just like you would a mater sammich, without the salt...

I don't eat raw onions. I find them repugnant. So I don't eat them. But I cook onions in a lot of things.

If you want to tame the heat of raw onions, slice and sprinkle with lime juice. They'll turn pinkish, and much of the "raw" taste will mellow.

i find this...but in a GOOD way.

tomatoes and onions are 2 of life's hidden gems that i've rediscovered as i've gotten older.

i now understand why the Indians rioted during the onion famine a few years ago

my problem is not my taste buds its my stomach, if I don't have some antacids before I eat certain foods especially onions I'm gonna be miserable.

I love onions, raw or cooked. No stomach problems or taste bud problems as I grow older. This thread made me think of the question "have I changed my taste in food from my 50s to my 60s?"

The only thing I can come up with is the infrequency of beef steak. I use lean ground beef in some dishes but we have an actual steak for dinner about once a month.

You are all over me here. Did I kick your puppy or something or do you have me confused with someone else?
