SNL's fall

Stemming from the Tiger Rant's "Maine Justice" thread, has there ever been a show with a bigger fall from glory than SNL? It used to be phenomenal and now it is so bad that it is unwatchable. Agree disagree? Is there another show out there (doesn't necessarily have to be a comedy) that was really good and just turned south quickly?

SNL is cyclical

People need to realize that the SNL of the past wasn't some glorious thing where every sketch was laugh out loud humor. SNL has always had ups and downs.
That being said….I feel as if the SNL of today is nowhere near the quality of the SNL in the late-90s when you had Chris Farley, David Spade, Phil Hartman, Norm MacDonald, Will Ferrell, and company all alive and in their comedic primes.
I mean…how long has it been since SNL has produced a truly legendary sketch? It seems like it's been forever.

The digital shorts have been memorable the past few years.

That says more about NBC than SNL, imo

So much potential. But they kept bringing that jackass back as the villain. In increasingly stupider ways.

Everyone likes to think the past seasons of SNL are so great. Hell it got so bad in 1995 that NBc fired both Adam Sandler and Chris Farley

It doesnt help that in the span of about 5 years they lost all their front men and writers. But they have had some good sketches here and there, and it is really starting to pick back up.
Like others have said, it is cyclical and i think its about to come back in an upswing.

Every generation thinks the prior generation of SNL was glorious. No one is ever happy with the current SNL.

I have watched a lot of SNL over the years and it isnt any worse than it has ever been with the exception of the Ferrel years and the Farley Sandler years, but those casts were ridiculous.

Disagree, Saturday Night Live has always been hit or miss. The show is still funny.

I think the last 2 episodes are among the HoF of SNL episode, were there such a thing.
But this is a very weak cast. The hosts are saving them.

I feel like people don't watch it as much as they used to, because they know they can catch the funny skits the next day on the internet.
It's no longer must-see TV when it airs.

Heroes was such a good show during the first season. Season 2 was OK, but anything after that was straight trash.
