Holy shite, what a great thread. Simply awesome. This is the only outlet I have to find bands in my favorite genre. Whoever it was that posted the Baroness, thank you.
I see someone's already mentioned Orange Goblin. I gotta say, they don't make too many bad songs. Every album is packed with greatness.
I think I've only seen Dozer mentioned once so far. Their album 'Call It Conspiracy' is fantastic from beginning to end.

About the only band I like that nobody's mentioned yet is Acrimony.

I posted the new Vista Chino album last week but I'll post it here again. This is the singer and drummer from Kyuss' band. Josh Homme won the rights to the Kyuss name so they're going as Vista Chino now. The new album is worth checking out.

Vista Chino is first on my next to get list.
Josh Homme's been in some cool bands, but John Garcia's been in more. Josh sure does come across like the dickhead in the situation.

Listening to Bloody Hammers today. Their sound has been compared to Black Sabbath and Acid Bath. They're pretty cool.

The Melvin's are the greatest metal band in the universe. Just an FYI.

dunno about categorization but these not mentioned are worth exploring-
Truckfighters- Freewheelin'
Sahg- Soul Exile
Supergiant- Luna
Sheavy- The Rook (Ozzie sound alike)
Village of Dead Roads- Between Grace & Delusion
Obituary- Redneck Stomp
Serent Throne- Battle of Old Crow
Slo Burn- The Prizefighter (John Garcia)
Tides- Resurface
Mentioned but one of my alltime favorites is the medley version of 100 degrees/Space Cadet/Demon Cleaner by Kyuss

Gonna go threw this list blueslover, but right off your the only person i have ever seen mention TIDES or Village of Dead Roads.
VODR album Dwelling in Doubt is bad to the bone. Very hard to find though. Not a ton of info about this bad. I found them on Pandora!

For Sludge metal, there is Crowbar, then everything else.

I love josh Homme, but that is a dick move. I need to learn more about this.
They sound damn near like Kyuss, maybe slightly less 'stoned' in sound. I was expecting more but it isn't terrible

Dickish in a way but good in another. I've seen some once arena act type bands touring under the former band name with as little as only the original drummer. Pretty embarrassing and a pretty negative toward the band name IMO. No Homme, Oliveri, & Reeder isn't much of a Kyuss of any sort to me.
There's been some famous band fallouts over name rights. Fogerty vs. the rest of CCR touring as Creedence Clearwater Revisited. At one point YES was touring with only original bass player Chris Squire because he owned the rights. The lead singer, lead guitarist, drummer, & keyboardist toured but couldn't use the YES moniker.

Josh didn't want them touring under the name Kyuss Lives so he sued and won. Nick Oliveri quit Kyuss Lives when the lawsuit was announced. I think Scott Reeder was in the lawsuit with Josh too. Basically Josh and John Garcia hate each other.

That about sums it up I think. Nick had said he was going to rejoin Kyuss Lives but so far he hasn't.
Personally, I like the stuff John Garcia's done post-Kyuss better than Homme's. I dig three of the QOTSA albums, but a couple of them just don't do anything for me.

Another Swedish band that rocks. Just put out their 2nd album. Damn good.

I think, he thinks(Homme) that it isn't the same sound without him and doesn't wanna mess up whatever legacy he has with the bands history and living memory. Just a though, who cares we get the music either way
If your big big into stoner rock then I got ya, but there is no denying what Homme has done since leaving Kyuss.
