I can't wait to hear Alicia Keys' rendition of "Tiger is on Fire".

Are there still people on this board saying he will never win another major?

I WAS. Saw him drain that putt on 18. That he really didn't need but still would have pushed or pulled it by about a foot. If his putter becomes "Tiger's Putter" again I am excited. Golf is better with him relevant and chasing Jack. It is going to be golfs main story for the next 10 years.

I get it, you guys are young and never saw players in another generation play, so it's just not something you can wrap your heads around

It never fricking fails. So when you were watching Jack in his prime, were you not infuriated by the old farts that wouldn't shut up about how so and so from 30 years ago was better? Or did that just not happen without message boards being around?

Because he has been better and more dominant than jack at every stage of his career. Not really hard to understand.

No he has not. He has been equal to Jack. Until now. Jack as far as I know never had a meltdown period like Tiger has. I am not trying to piss on Tiger anymore for his personal life, but it seems it had an effect on his mental game. Would anyone argue that? Any old timers out there remember a Jack scandal? I am too young and media was nothing like today of course. So a Jack scandal could have just been rumor and nothing more.

How old are you? 39 here.

I was 13 when Jack had 86' Masters. But my Dad watched it. And he could have given two shits about golf. But HE stopped and watched.

Better junior - yep
Better amateur - yep
Better in his 20's - yep
At the age of 37 - both with 14 majors and tiger has more wins

So how again has he not been better at every stage??

I would say some could be equal. Except 20's. Tiger's 2000 season and "tiger slam" cannot be denied.

Jack was better in his 30's. And 40's. Tiger's 40's of course are yet to be written.

Well to be fair, Tiger's 30's aren't over yet. He has a long way to go though no doubt (to compete with Jack)

Why???

Can a real golfer explain this to me? I mean is there a scratch or single digit poster on here (for real) who can explain why he ever did this?

the scandal

His own doing and to his detriment. Before scandal he drained putt after putt to beat an out of his mind Rocco Mediate. After scandal he would have never gotten to that US Open playoff.

Their 20's are equal??

Pick any age and compare the two. At no age was jack better than tiger.

It's scary to think, but TW's best golf may be in front of him. He's obviously in super physical condition, the surgeries have been successful, he's getting more comfortable with Sean Foley. Everything points to him returning to a form of the dominance he once enjoyed.

As I've said previously, the proof for me is mid April at Augusta. If he puts on another green jacket I think he will surpass Jack's record.

He's only had 3 changes.

The first time according to Butch was because his swing wasn't consistent enough, he would win only when his A game was on. He wanted to be able to win when he didn't have his A game

The 2nd one with Haney was supposedly to protect his knee.

The 3rd with Foley, I'm not sure of the exact reason. But he's been a much better driver and ball striker with the current swing

True. 3 (what looks like will be good) years left.

This is all I am saying. He needs Nick Faldo's career on top of what he has already done to beat Jack. Nick has 6, Tiger only needs 5. But that was an ENTIRE HOF career. It just puts into perspective how hard it is to do what Tiger is trying to do.

I am not pulling for Tiger and I am not pulling against him. I want to see it. I want to see him chase or I want to see the trainwreck. The trainwreck was already entertaining. Him chasing will be more entertaining. And will be the equivalent to golf porn.

Except when Y.E Yang beat him before the Scandal.

I think the Scandal effected his mental game some, but going through a swing change its hard to tell how much. I think a portion of his shitty play from 2010 on was due to not trusting his swing, which he has said as much.

While all of that may be true, I don't think it's fair to compare Tiger's career arc and talent to anyone but Jack. Comparing what he has to do now to any other golfer is kind of silly, considering only Jack has done what he has done up till now.

This is true, I don't know if that speaks more towards his talent, or just being a perfectionist more than anything. He's never happy with what he has.

Which ironically is probably what led to him cheating on his ex supermodel wife

ETA: I'm not going to guarantee Tiger will break Jack's record. I'm cautiously optimistic with the way he has played over the last year or so that he can. I do think if he ever does win another major, he will win multiple, but, getting the first one is the trick.
