NIT or SEC Tourney - easier championship?

SEC Tourney would involve 4 wins, probably 1 against a poor team that doesn't play postseason, 1-2 NIT teams, and 1-2 NCAA tourney teams (including maybe UF or Missouri who are sweet 16 or better caliber).

NIT would involve 5 wins against above average (NIT obviously) opponents.

I would say SEC championship is "more likely" in general. It would probably really require just one big "upset" (and maybe not). NIT would require sustained very good play.

Both tough. I'm Gonna say the NIT is tougher. LSU may be required to go into a very good teams arena and win. That is very tough. If LSU was able to play at home first three rounds and then go to Mad Square then it would be one thing, but LSU will likely have to go on the road at some point.

NIT b/c of the rapid back to back games in the SECT and our lack of depth.

I used to be a beliver in the lack of depth hurts you in back to back, to back.... games, but then I remember being 17-20 years old. At that age, we would play basketball for 3-4 hours one day, then turn around and do it again the next day, and the day after that. These guys would probably be doing the same thing if they weren't playing CBB.

i say the NIT is easier... there's more pressure involved in the SEC tourney once you get later in it (especially as a bubble team), plus you have potential final four teams in it

if a team had an unbeatable home court, they wouldn't be in the NIT

I'll go with NIT being easier. Unless it falls right, LSU would have to likely beat Mizzou and UF to win the SEC tourney. Mizzou is projected an 8 and UF is projected a 2 seed in the NCAA.

I think LSU is gonna have to only beat the winner of this one. :fingerscrossed:

Florida is definitely a potential final four team. And worse teams than Missouri have made it.

Both tough. I don't think we can beat Fla anywhere, so they'd have to be upset earlier; but then the SEC opens up.

Re the NIT, physical level of competition might be easier, but aside from going on the road (a distinct possibility), there's also the issue that they may run into someone who wants it more. A mid-major with seniors maybe, who isn't disappointed at not being the NCAA.

I agree with most that the competition is potentially better in the SEC tournament but just look at road vs home records. LSU is 14-2 at home and only 4-8 on the road. It is tough to win on the road.

How do you think we'll fare on a neutral court?

I am hoping pretty good.

To me LSU has gotten better and better on the road. We played very well against both Tennessee and Missouri, but both home teams caught a big advantage from their fans. Hoping LSU doesn't get up up against that and can keep it up.
