MLB scouts at Justin Williams' game; also using wooden bat this season

A couple of Major League Baseball scouts were on hand to watch Terrebonne senior Justin Williams, who has signed with LSU, but is a projected first-round pick by some in the upcoming MLB draft.
Something Williams is showing outwardly is the fact he will be using a wooden bat this season, and not an aluminum one. Williams was 1-for-3 on Tuesday night with a ground out, a walk and a single, and he reached on an error on an extremely hard hit ball to the shortstop.
"He was advised to use a wooden bat," Brown said. "He feels more comfortable using it."

Just a heads up!! I know him personally and he told me he's keeping his options open. We'll see.

6'2" 215 lb. left-handed power hitter that already has an MLB body. The ONLY thing that will save LSU is the money restrictions that are a part of the MLB Draft. Don't see this kid donning the purple & gold

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mr Williams good luck on his professional career and hope that his ascent through the minors is a quick one. And also that the Cardinals draft him.

Good luck to him in the pros

I watched him play on Feb. 9th in a scrimmage game and he showed nothing special on the baseball skills side but he has what coaches can't teach that is size and looks to be a great athelete. Had 2 scouts at this game and yes he was using a wood bat but didn't swing it very well. He struck out looking in 1st AB, pulled an outside pitch and grouded out to 2B in 2nd AB then walked on 4 straight pitches in his 3rd AB. He played SS and had only one groundball hit to him and threw it 5ft over the first baseman's head.
He will probably get drafted early and would be crazy to turn down big money but he has a long way to go in being coached up to succeed at a higher level.

Yes. I think he must be leaning towards the pros; or at least preparing himself for it. I would have loved to see him in purple & gold.

nah, there are not that restrictive. he'd be crazy to go college if he's a first rounder.

Sounds like most elite HS prospects.

Yes it may be true the facts you state; but what most people don't know is that he has only been playing baseball 6 years. Most kids his age have double the experience. He has what most of the other kids don't have; size, strength, and speed. That alone is what the scouts are drooling over.
Also need to remember, you were watching a scrimmage; not a real game.

Jacoby Jones overheard that.

Moreso than before. Gausman was really close to returning to LSU despite his draft spot. While that is different, not everything is set in stone

Cecchini used wood last year. No way you go to college if you make that decision

Wood bats actually have more pop than thte BBcor bats, bacon just has a bigger sweet spot

They should just get rid of aluminum bats at the high school and college level

So in a scrimmage it's ok to overthrow the first baseman and pull outside pitches? Why wouldn't you want to play the same in a scrimmage as in a game?

Did winchester use wood?
Went to HS with him......no
Any thoughts on how he would have done had he gone to LSU? Would have been tough for him to catch as he would have had to battle Cresse.
