One thing about the Paeyton era is that we have not seen them draft what we or the mocks had projected them to do most years. Looking through the list, the only two that stand out to me as picks that were expected are Bush and Jenkins. This year every mock and poster here expect them to go OLB, but history tells me that this is not the position that will be selected. It's as if they use this to their advantage to create a smoke screen for the draft.

If we don't go OLB, I am starting to think Safety may be the pick we go. It's the one spot that isn't talked much about, and it is a glaring need on this D. Kenny Vaccaro is the only S I have seen ranked where we are picking, and he may be a good fit for replacing Harper (if he's gone, which I think he will be). Although his top speed was slow by measurement standards, he still seems to be a good pick.

If not Safety, then I see CB or even the big surprise WR being the pick. Before everyone start writing WR off as a "No way" move, remember when Meachem was selected? All anyone thought about for that pick was defense, yet Paeyton suprised and went WR.

Ok, I'm done. Now I am ready for my berating. As 2 live Crue once said, let the beatings begin

No one truly knows who they will draft. So most of the things we debate on here is just material to get us excited for draft day.

I agree. With a few exceptions they can be unpredictable.

I think there is a strong possibility they go DB.

Peyten is going to do what's right, whatever he feels deep in his plums.

I don't think after all these years of seeing 3-4 rushers go in the draft tweeners and all and making the switch that CSP would pass on a playmaker at OLB.
What will be interesting to watch is if they are all gone by 15 what is their fall back plan?(pun intented)
If vaccaro is not that high on their board you will see them deperate to trade back.

It's also hard to predict before free agency even starts. Do we keep bushrod? Sign a vet LT? Find a 3-4 OLB with experience in FA? Land a CB?

I know you can't exactly write off a WR as a first pick, but IMO they learned from Meachem . It took a couple years to come around and even then he was more of a product of Brees.. Barely hauled in any catches as the #2 in SD

I have a feeling that Spencer getting the tag in Dallas all but assures us to take 34 OLB with our 15th.

I have seen many "it's hard to predict" responses to my post, and that is precisely my point. Everywhere else shows the saints targeting OLB, but I don't think there is any predicting whom they draft. I do think it won't be OLB based on our current roster and the history of this team's drafts. I believe it will be a left field pick (ala PRob and Meach)

Will be interesting if Mingo, Jarvis, and Moore are there for the taking, who we grab.

That is very interesting...

Mingo has the skills but does he have the size and speed to play OLB with first round quality

Jarvis is almost a sure thing in regards to quality play but his injuries are a huge scare

Moore is big and fast, but if he falls to 15 there is most likely something everyone sees that is negative

I think in this case its Mingo, Jarvis, then Moore.

IMO (which doesn't carry much weight) this front office has shown the propensity to select the "best player available" regardless of position and/or need. Obviously the Saints recognize their need areas and would like to get a guy who both fits a need, and is also one of the 3-4 BPA on their board at the time of the pick. However, I could see the Saints passing on the 6th or 7th best DE/OLB and taking for instance the #1 WR and overall BPA at the time of the pick if that was the scenario presented.

While this has sometimes worked out..I think focusing on filling our needs through FA is what has kept us in cap space limbo for a few years now. It's been awhile since weve had a good bit of space to play with.

I think it's DB, whether is Vaccaro or Rhodes. While Gallette and Wilson do not have much 3-4 OLB experience in the NFL , they are at least suited to play the position. DB on the other hand, we have a bunch of clowns on the roster right night who aren't suited to play in my flag football league, much less the NFL.

While I agree and think Galette and Wilson will do well as OLBs, I still want our first pick to be OLB. Say we get a Mingo or Jones. You'd have three guys you could interchange and move around. On obvious passing downs you could move Wilson to one of the ILB spots considering that's what he played in college. That would put a lot of speed on the field.
