OT Computer gurus

When I'm working on my laptop, I keep getting a black screen with a message that reads something like "disc drive failed - fully recovered." Do I need to start shopping for a new laptop? Mine is about 4 or 5 years old. I just had the hard drive replaced about a year ago. TIA

Morning everyone

Either bad drive or controller - probably the drive.

Either replace it with a SSD (laptop that old may not support it) or start shopping.

Sounds like it's just a bad drive. Get a new HDD, or if you have the money, get the new laptop.

If you have any important documents or files you might want to look into backing them up somewhere.

Learned this the hard way. I don't keep anything on here. I keep all the important stuff on my flash drive.
Looks like I'll be taking my computer in this weekend to see if it's an easy/non-expensive fix or if I start looking for a new laptop

Whatever you end up getting, I'd highly suggest making sure that it comes with an SSD, or upgrading to one. They're so worth the $.

You're still backing that up though, right?

yes. I still back up. Plus I keep hard copies of some things. I'm starting to work with drop box so I can have web access to some of the things I'm working on. Thanks so much for the help guys.

Back up docs and pics to a thumb drive, asap.

Do not buy a new HD.
Do buy a new computer.
Restore docs and pics to new computer.
