The bench press doesn't have a thing to do with football

Not sure if serious. . .

It measures strength and endurance, two critical characteristics of a football player.

He won't need to bench press in coverage or returning punts!

Could he have skipped it since I read past players have skipped it and others.

He could have, but not participating would prob hurt him more since he's out there trying to prove he's draft worthy.

Warren Sapp told his story about how he only did 16 and he turned out pretty fine. It doesn't mean a damn thing.

bp for db is ehh who cares...40 yd dash means something but not world breaker for me... film on playing against higher level of competition is good but how you turn hips and accelerate after a change of direction is high up there. I can say a guy has 4.3 speed but look at history and tell me me how many guys with that speed are no longer in the league that has the classification as a db.

Actually, the combination of his small size plus this very weak effort is a pretty big deal. He did tend to get pushed around in coverage if you watched him at LSU and despite all the football know nothings on this board, the ability to hand jam(or respond to hand jams) is kind of important in coverage.

This dude would lose a shoving contest to ME badly and I'm fricking 46 years old and I'm shorter than TM.

4 is goddamned anemic. I didn't see that coming at all.

No, no he wouldn't.

He would knock you on your arse faster than you can blink.

My son saw him many times at LSU, and said it was surprising how stocky he is. 186 LBs at 5-9 and lean is big.

Ouch.. 4 reps, he should not have participated. did he have reps discounted?

not unusual to see college kids starting their first set of monday bench with 225..

Randy Moss supposedly tops out at about 180 on the bp.

Randy Moss is 6'4", runs a 4.3, has a 40+ vertical and will probably be in the hall of fame.

TM7 might see a little time, but nothing meaningful once the season starts, IMO Just way to dam small.

Look. The guy is a far better athlete than I ever have been. But, he aint as strong as me. Not even close. I would consider pushing 225 four times to be a decent warm up to my heavy day.

So yes. In a pure shoving contest, I would shove him on his arse and laugh about it.

And that's kind of the point. I'm NOT an athlete like what he'll be dealing with and the guys he'll be dealing with are more often than not, stronger than I am. Hence, he'll be dealing with people who can outshove him AND are his athletic equal. Bad news.

Jeebus people. Get a fricking grip.

How does your squat and deadlift compare? He'd put you on the ground in a second

For your chest.
Thats like saying someone is stronger just because they beat you in arm wrestling.

Why is everyone defending the fact that TM is weak? So what, the kid isn't that strong. If a team wants a strong football player, they'll pick someone else. If they want a weak football player who has a nose for the ball, they'll pick TM.

It is silly to assume he is weak based of one lift

Coming from the guy talking about a shoving contest...WTF is a shoving contest?

Also I doubt Mathieu is that weak where he can only lift 225 off his chest 4 times. More likely is he had a few not counted because of improper form.
