I didn't realize the Hi-Way Drive-In, in Latrobe, closed shop and was tore down.

I went to one 3 years ago.. and it's still standing today. It's in the area I went to college, pretty awesome, and always do a triple feature or something like that, always an amazing deal.

Showing my age..

Many times

We used to go all the time when I was a kid. In my teen years we would cram people in the trunk and sneak them in all the time. Sometimes drive-ins had "carload" specials, at which time we crammed 8 or nine of our friends into the car for one low price. This was all during the 60s and early 70s.

There are still some drive-ins out here, but not as many as there used to be. I don't go to the show anymore anyway, but I love drive-ins.

Here is a local one about 5 miles from my house:

I saw Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Terminator 2 at a drive-in in a small ski town in PA.

Just for the record, there are 368 drive-ins that currently operate in the US, down from more than 4,000 in the 1950s.

There's one in the next town over that shows a double feature of first run movies for $5 an adult, it's awesome. The guy who does the movie hotline is unintentionally hilarious.

It was the most inexpensive way for a family to do something fun when I was a kid. Grew up going with parents and two brothers in the 63 Falcon station wagon. My mom made popcorn and we took everything we ate and drank. This is back when they had metal box speakers on a pole. You drove up, rolled down your window & hung the speaker on the top of the window. Sometimes you'd have to move around to find a speaker that worked properly.

Our drive-in showed older movies I remember seeing The African Queen there probably in the late 60's. Saw the Fred McMurray Disney movies & tons of old westerns there too. All of the movies they showed were family friendly.

There was a drive-in out past the Siesta in Monroe that showed R rated movies in the late 70's. I can remember driving around it in hopes of seeing a bare breast when I was in high school.

I got the numbers from my local paper, that did a story on our local drive-ins at the first of the year. Looks like that 368 number will be dwindling.

I had a good time when I went to one in Virginia back in college when I worked in DC for a summer.

A big group of us went and had a blast. American Pie and Blair Witch double feature so it was perfect with a big group. Mostly college kids.

But I went to one outside of Baltimore with my wife a couple of years ago because she had never been to one and it was a pretty trashy crowd that kind of ruined the experience. The Russell Crowe Robin Hood was one and don't even remember what the second movie was.

Here's a good site that lists every operating drive in by state if you want to find one nearby.

I keep telling people if I ever win the lottery. I am opening a Dollar show, a drive-in and a Putt-Putt golf course. Just to give kids and teens more options. The city really sucks for people who want to do something other than catch live music, or drink or do the museums.

I really miss having a putt-putt golf though.

We had one here in Lake Charles when I was a kid, it was called The New Moon Drive In. I remember going there and watching movies while sitting in our van, eating pretzels and getting scared at the Boggy Creek movies.

It's closed since then, now it's a driving range.

I was visiting my cousins in Pennsylvania in the mid 80s and we watched Total Recall at a drive in there.

I miss those things. They were really cool.
