I was at Academy today and picked up a box of .22LR Birdshot. I had never heard of these before and was wondering if anyone on the OB has ever shot this round.

Apparently they're really only good for killing medium to large sized bugs.

We used to shoot rats with them in the chickenhouses at the farm where I grew up years and years ago, and they didnt kill too many of them

Always called it rat shot. My dad always said that it would mess up the rifling but I don't know if that's true or not.

I've read that they're not really powerful enough to cycle a semiautomatic and should really only be used for smooth bore bolt actions (apparently a rifled barrel messes up the shot pattern).

We always used the ones with the plastic cones at the end, not the crimped ones

Very true shot some thru my gun and they would always get stuck in the barrel. Would have to get the knife to get them out

I watched my buddy drop a bird out of the sky with em one day from a .22 pistol. I wouldn't have believed it had I not been there.

I have six .22 rifles/handguns and all are rifled. Guess I won't be shooting that ammo anytime soon.
