I'd like to grow some tomaters at the house his year. When and what to do? I've never been much of a gardener, thanks.

Maters are one of most aggervating to me.. If not enough calcium in soil they bottom rot, bugs love em, worms love em, haha just alot of attention... With that said, if you are just looking to grow a few in pots you shouldn have much problem. When i garden i have a fairly big garden and plant all in the ground.

You putting them in the ground as a garden, or just a couple in pots? Or some type of raised bed?

Do it today, and just cover if you think there's gonna be a frost. Go to Clegg's and get a couple different varieties. See which ones grow best. If you are only doing it to have a couple for sandwiches and such you can get the wire baskets to put over them so you don't have to worry about tying them up every other day.

Sun and heat. They need both to turn out delicious like a good mater should.

Ask your local nursery which variety grows best in your area.

Be consistant with your water. Don't water the shite out of them and think you're good for a few days. This will lead to shedding blooms and blossom end rot. Give them a little water everyday if possible. Lots of sun. Dust em if you're getting bugs. Lots of stuff out there to deal with blossom rot, which can be a big problem. Good luck.

Tomatoes are hard to grow. I grew 14 jalapeños before I got my first tomato bud. Make sure you prune regularly bc the fruit isn't getting enough nutrition with a bunch of limbs and leaves eating all it's dinner.

I was surprised how well those things worked Wick. I had a couple hanging off my houseboat. I had a cherry in one and bush type in the other and those suckers put out some tomatoes. Not a bad idea for OP if he just wants a few. They make a stand so you can move them to sunny spots. Do have to water often though.

Compost, calcium tablets and powdered milk. You're welcome.

I like Creoles the best. But plant big or better boys also for variety. Tomatoes aren't hard to grow. Hard to have perfect plants but I don't care about that. Two plants are more than enough for two people. I normally plant about eight and have some to give awy.

I plant two in pots every year. Plant them early and keep on porch for freeze protection. Normally get a few early one if of them.

I just bought my first one of the season a couple of days ago.

I plant them in pots on the patio, so I can drag them in if it's gonna freeze.

Like everyone else said, full sun, a water regularly.

Put down a seeper hose. Get one of those cheap timers from walmart and let it water them every morning during the heat of the summer. I have to put up tin plates to scare away the birds and squirrels and seven dust them every once in a while. Other than that, that is all I have to do. I usually plant 6 plants and have plenty to give away. I will plant alot more this year because I want to can some.

Yeah, pick up a can of this at Lowe's or a feedstore. You'll get aphids or other bugs at some point.

I'll even pre dust mine when they go to blooming.

For the record, you don't wanna pick and eat any a few days after you dust. I think the can says 2 weeks.

I love a good vine-ripened tomato, but they're just not worth the aggravation to me.

I grow and like loquats. Lots of sweet fruit, no bugs, no predators, and absolutely no hassle. Maximum benefit with minimal effort expended.

I started a bunch indoors this past weekend.

I have a couple of months before they will be ready to go outside though.

Seven dust is for chewing bugs, aphids suck. Gotta spray them with something like Malathion.
