Right. It was at a time in college basketball when the shoe wars were just taking off. It was something that they didn't make a public statement over but behind the scenes it was HUGE. Back then, (when I was there) the programs received huge bucks for shoe brands. I'm not sure how its handled now.

Shaquille oneal and chris Jackson aren't even in the same league in regards LSU basketball.
One is an embarrassment.

One of the only ones who I've seen get a steal run full speed, stop on a dime at the 3 pt line and shoot and drain it, instead of taking it all the way for an easy lay up.
To the guys arguing who was best, I'll just say this.....Its a shame that team of CJ, Shaq, and Vernel, et all didn't make it to the final 4 much less win it all!!

mmm kay. you are not considered the most dominant player in college basketball, the #1 overall draft pick, one of the most dominant centers ever, and one of the top 50 players (actually probably to 10 or 15) players of all time if the only thing you can do is dunk. keep trying

Is this not a free country?? It's funny how in other countries people are more concerned about whatever god they worship rather than worshipping a country and/or flag whereas here in America people are obsessed with the flag and 'Merica. I can tell you, when and if you get to heaven God isn't going to give a shite about what flag you flew. He might even look at the human suffering you supported under whatever regime you were under and that goes for everyone; Muslims, Christians, Buddists, etc

Look, I like Shaq. He's been a great ambassador for LSU throughout his career. Certainly more so than Jackson. And yes, Shaq was dominant at LSU (especially on the defensive end), but I don't necessarily disagree with those saying that all he could do on the offensive end was dunk. That was 90% of his game. He was big, powerful and essentially unguardable because he just banged/slammed into defenders and physically moved them out of the way. Whether it was a foul or not was at the discretion of the officials. Still doesn't mean that he wasn't a great player. But IMO (which won't get you very much), CJ was clearly a better player at LSU

The funny thing about CJ was that while he was at LSU, he was EXTREMELY religious. I remember reading the book Don't Count Me Out about Dale Brown and it highlighted certain players and was written when CJ was on campus. It described just how religious he was, going so far as to have a crucifix sewn into his socks or something. Being fanatically religious was second nature to Jackson.
In the end, I think the issue people had with CJ when he refused to stand for the flag had far more to do with his change in religion (Christian to Muslim) than it did with politics.
Either way, the guy was simply phenomenal while at LSU and without a doubt the most exciting basketball player we've had since Pistol.

All true. All it takes is a look at any Shaq highlight reel from his days at LSU and this is obvious. He's as dominant a big man as there ever has been, and wildly athletic...but in no way remotely a complete basketball player. That's not even a shot at him...most big men fall into that category with a few notable exceptions. What CJ could do with a ball was multidimensional and given his size and his Tourettes was even more impressive.
I love Shaq...make no mistake. Cj was simply better.

I support standing for the Anthem; however, I respect his right not to. I'd say it is what makes this country great. The U.S. was founded on the principles of checks and balances, and people like MLK or even Malcolm X are important to positive change occurring. If everyone blindly supported everything about our gov't, we'd be North Korea.

had 3 copies autographed while i was at Dale's basketball camp. Gave 1 away, have 2 now as well as 2 autographed Kevin Faulk covers. I used to emulate all his moves on the court.

I was at LSU and watched him many times. I can't say that I've seen a college player with his ability since. He made defenders look silly and you were surprised when he didn't hit a shot. Had crazy vert. too.
How in the friggen world did we not win every game with him, Shaq, and Stanley in the lineup?? Brown was a great recruiter...not so much of an X&O coach. The quote from B Knight says it all...
