Thoughts on starting a position in BP now...

Any thoughts on this? It is currently at $41.13.

I plan on holding for a long time.

I think the civil trials start February 25th, so would starting a position now be considered a gamble? Should I wait til they wrap up? Should I not invest in them at all.

Your talking about trying to make money on the most hated public company on the Gulfcoast. I doubt your going to find too much enthusiasm about the stock. At least from my end anyways.

Back after it plummted initially, that was obviously the time to get in. I think most civil liability has to be priced in at this point right? I mean, there may be some movement with the results or day to day revelations of the trial, but I think most people have to think this trial probably won't be great for BP.

Well, I read something that said the maximum penalty that could come from the trials would be 17 billion. Not sure if that is true or not.

I've seen Entergy get more hatred than BP.

Most people disliked the moratorium on drilling in the aftermath for frick's sake.

Besides, why hate them?

"frick you BP for hiring an outside contractor to bring their hardware and crews to do a job....only to monumentally frick it up."

I understand the law why they need to foot the bill for damages from the spill. Beyond that? frick no. And take that manslaughter shite out the window. That's like me ordering flowers and the driver dies in an accident while delivering.

Sad, but that shite isn't my fault.

only close minded nit-wits or families of the people who died hate BP at this point. they are paying everyone off.

the moratorium is what screwed everything up.

You didn't tell the driver how to get there, nor were you responsible for his car. Terrible analogy. BP fricked up big time. I work in E&P so im not some tree hugger.

Wowzers you are ridiculous. Great job buddy, you really stuck it to me

Unfortunately for BP they did employ that contracted rig. That means ultimately, they are captain of the ship (responsibility). If they are going to contract out, they better damn have some measures in place to audit the condition of rigs. Otherwise, they are in my book, forever at ulmitate fault.

They paid for that rig for certain reasons (location, profitablity, management, etc..) One of those reasons had to have been rig care and maintenance. Obviously, profitability and costs were higher on the priority list than said others.

Use your empty-fricken noggin man.

Yea u obviously don't know how offshore work works. Yea the contractor (transocean) does all the work, but there are BP guys onsite that make all the real calls.

Have you ever worked with BP before? Their organization is extremely arrogant and that certainly played a role in their latest screwup. I have worked with BP as a partner on several projects and they weren't highly thought of before the Macondo incident. BP screwed up big time, don't let anyone tell you differently. I just hate that the industry as a whole has suffered greatly due to their incompetence.
