Need some advice on home assessments

We built a house last yr and now it's time for the assessment process. I called the assessment office and they tell me to bring in appraisal info. I'm not doing that, cause the house appraised for a decent amount more than it cost to build. I figured I'd bring in a copy of the plans and the amount I paid to build the house. I guess the stuff from my closing with the bank. Any advice would be helpful.

We bought a newly built home last summer. When the gentleman representing our appraisal district (Fort Bend Cty, TX) came to do the appraisal for this year, he said if the county's appraisal came back higher than what we PAID, we needed to provide our closing papers(HUD statement) to have it adjusted. If it came back lower, he said keep your mouth shut!

Funny thing I saw in San Miguel de Allende a few years ago. There were houses on the outskirts of town with rebar and framing randomly sprouting out of the rooftops. I asked about it and was told it was to keep the tax assessor at bay indefinitely. The house wouldn't go on the rolls until it was finished so they were left in a permanently unfinished condition.
