I actually like Holder. But, I think this article kind of exposes his lack of knowledge.
#1, he got it completely backwards.

Well this is awkward. Larry's article is mostly quotes from Payton, and all the text in the OP is all Payton. So...there you go.

If you read Payton's quotes, he's not talking about Vilma playing OLB. He's talking about him playing the weakside ILB spot. He even goes into detail about covering the guard which will help Vilma.

It is Holder's summary in the 2nd paragraph that wrongly interprets Payton's quotes...and misleads the reader. Go read it again.

Ob talking about WILB. Can Vilma play there at this point in his career effectively? Maybe. At the current price? No.

Some interesting quotes from Payton about Ryan. I don't think it was a direct jab at Spag or anything, but these were the things that Holder's "anonymous" sourch (aka Shanle) complained about with Spag.

quote:

"Number one, I know he's passionate about the game. I know he's very intelligent and players love playing for him. "He's a very loyal guy. All the coaches I've spoken to that he's worked with have all said he's done a great job of putting together defenses and understanding strengths and weaknesses of his team.

I don't think Spags is a bad coach or anything, but I think the part about him putting the right players in the right situations is what made us so bad last year.
