Do you see the starting staff performing as well this year?

We've still got some more work to do to build a solid rotation for this year. But we've got young guys who could establish themselves as big league starters. Hammel and Chen are the veterans; then we've got Tillman, Gonzalez, Johnson, Zach Britton. We like T.J. McFarland; he did a good job in the minors for the Indians organization last year. He's left-handed, keeps the ball down, 23 years old — you want to give a guy like that an opportunity. Kevin Gausman was the top college pitcher in the draft a couple of years ago; Dylan Bundy was the top high school pitcher two years ago. Bundy's making good progress. Both he and Gausman pitched in Double-A, then in the Double-A playoffs. Bundy came up soon after that. My expectation is both will help the club this year. I don't know if they'll break with us and start the season. But expectation is they'll be in the big leagues and be there to help us win.

Not only would he be making his MLB debut in his first full season, but he'd be doing it in what should have been his Junior year of school. As an O's fan... I'm very pumped about him and Bundy.

Most interesting part is that we have a really deep starting staff. So if they see him cracking the rotation this year, that means something.

Hammel and Chen are locks

Gonzalez and Tillman are 90% guarantees to start.

Then battling for the 5th spot we have Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz, Steve Johnson (who finished hot as hell last year) Tshoysui Wada (our big FA signing last year but had TJ surgery) Zach Britton a former BA Top 25 prospect. Bundy the top pitching prospect in baseball, Jair Jurrens who is one year removed from being an all star and Gausman.

Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz,

That's crazy that those 2 are going for the final spot.

I think Matusz is destined for the pen as a power lefty who can still get righties out. With the move to season long inter-league it is important to have a guy who can go an inning and take on both sides on the plate when we go to NL parks.

I know, I know.... it's just too tantalizing to think of a healthy Jair.

I had the opportunity to work with Gausman last season when he was playing for Frederick. Really nice guy, came in with his LSU backpack. I bought him some powdered donuts before his start, and judging by the response I got from the trainer, I don't think the O's want him doing that anymore.

It was obvious they were fast tracking him so it will be interesting to see how they use him this season.
