I'm thinking we should just go young and cheap with our safeties.

The Bush resigning thread got me thinking about this. I already think IAQ is a much better option at FS, and Bush actually showed some play making ability in limited snaps last year with 1 ff and 1 int.

Not to say we should roll the dice straight up with these two as our starters, but I'm sick and tired of having all this money tied up in our safeties and getting dicked in production. Of course Harper is decent, but no one can say he's worth the money with a straight face. Here's hoping we can make a trade with the Titans.

Jenkins is going to stick around for at least another year just because he is still on his rookie deal, but I pretty much agree. I posted a PFF article the other day that listed safties by the percentage of 1st downs they gave up, and Haper and Jenkins were on the top (worst) 10, while IAQ was top (best) 10. Hopefully Ryan will put the best players on the field this year, regardless of draft status/contract/previous starting experience.

It's unbelievable to me how resistant Spags was to go with the hot hand.

What I couldn't understand is how the hell did Ellis get the majority of the snaps all year? I was really wanting to see Hicks and Tyrunn Walker get more reps. Walker was only active for a couple of games, and I'm not sure if he played anything besides special teams.

I have no idea.

The defense looked totally different when Hicks was on the field.

Wonder if there's any chance of Jenkins playing corner as previously discussed? Not saying he would shine there either but IAQ is better in my opinion.

And I agree with Hoodoo. I wanna see alot more Hicks.

A few random notes from PFF about our safety play:
quote:

- It seems right to start with the Thursday Night Football. For New Orleans no-one graded higher than Ben Grubbs (+5.6), Brian De La Puente (+5.0) and Rafael Bush (+2.9).

- With two more missed tackles Malcolm Jenkins has now missed 20 for the year. That’s got record breaking potential.

With the Saints owning our two lowest-graded safeties this season, it’s been nice to see some production on the back end in the last few weeks in the form of Isa Abdul-Quddus. Forced into full time action with Malcolm Jenkins on IR, Quddus has responded extremely well in the last three games starting and playing 100% of defensive snaps. His performance against the Panthers marked the third time in four games – and his fourth on the season – that he’s graded at or above +1.9 in coverage, a mark neither Jenkins nor Roman Harper reached even once in a combined 29 games and over 2000 defensive snaps.

I think the saints will keep Malcolm and move him to nickel corner, and watch out for the saints to move Corey White to SS

I agree. I'm tired of seeing the same people out there and consistently sucking. If we're gonna suck on D I at least want it to be with new faces.

well I can't argue that IAQ and R. Bush looked good in limited playing time. Or maybe they just looked good relative to having watched Malcolm Jenkins for too long.

I've been curious as to a scenario with White moving to safety might be feasible myself.

And definitely move Jenkins back to nickel where he played well when he came into the league. If the guy isn't starting to get an inferiority complex about his inadequate play at safety by now, then he's delusional. Move him before he's psychologically ruined.
