| anyone carry a sidearm while Deer hunting? (Posted on 2/10/13 at 10:59 am)
Got into a conversation last night with my Brother in law. He always has a .357 with him "just in case."

A guy that my dad works with used his Beretta 92 on a buck about 10 years ago. He shot the buck with a 30-30 from about 80 yards and it dropped there on the spot. He walks to about 10 yards away from it and it jumps up. At this point he realizes he never chambered another round in his rifle, so he pulls the 92, empties a full mag, hits the deer twice, and found it about 100 yards away. I was laughing my arse off when he told this story at work on Monday.

I bring my .357 sometimes if I'm thinking about shooting a doe with it. I never have a handgun in the woods in SELA for "defense"

Sorry, I meant to ask if you have to have a Concealed Carry permit to carry with you?

My last hunt this year: Doe jumps across the road in front of us about 20 yards, and quarters back our way I pretty much hip shoot the .270 and miss Shoulder the rifle and pull the .40. She jumps all the way across the road behind us at about 25 yard. I shoot 3 times and nothing

For the most part I dont carry a handgun hunting. I have had to go into the brush after a pig that was shot and instead of carrying my bolt action rifle with me I took my 1911. We are starting to see bears around our place now and carrying a handgun may be something I start doing more of.

I carry my 40 just in case I startle a hog. Pretty sure it's legal in LA during rifle season. You can carry a 22 with rat shot during bow.

I carry a Glock 22 that I drop a .357 sig barrel in when I'm out hunting. Lot of crazy people in the world and don't really want to meet one of them in a desolate spot in the woods unprepared.
