Signing Day Throwback II: Torshiro Davis

Last year this board went on full meltdown when Davis flips to Texas on NSD....
One year later:
* shares a number (1) with a WR
* 3 Tackles
* no starts
* UT has a disaster season
* 2013 NSD UT is #23
* Mack Brown on the way out
So looking back, as LSU goes, it was much ado about nothing. Obviously, UT promised him a lot or expected a lot to assign him #1. Maybe that had more to do with his flip than we think. At any rate, we now have Bower and Herron, both of which are better or equal to him.
The thing to remember is, NSD is not the end all. One player does not make or break you. What will kill you is missing out on 8-10 players and I think LSU has been real good about picking players top to bottom over the years.
I can understand an uncommitted player making a decision on NSD but not a longtime committed player. That smells of conspriracy to me. I know PW would be such a flip for us, but he's only been to UCLA for about 10 days. That's a whole lot different. We didn't build our class around expecting PW.
Didn't happen this year, but with LA being loaded in 2014, be prepared for the vultures to be out in force.

Really a sad decision ! Had he come to lsu he would have gotten playing and would maybe be a starter as a sophomore this year. He would have given us depth! He also would have been a high draft choice. Now he probably will not even play in the NFL!

You know, certain adults will get in a kid's head and things like the flip happen. 98% of long time commits wouldn't bail on NSD, but those 2% probably are either very gullible and/or have some credibility issues.
Even in our class this year, there are some kids who may initially regret their decision. Usually that subsides once they get on campus. Unfortunately for TD, his name will be linked to some other guys like LD, JJ, LC for a very long time - at least on this board.
If the NFL or graduation doesn't pan out and they come home to LA to get a job, if the employer is a big LSU fan that application probably goes in the dumpster ASAP. While most employers don't follow recruiting, many do notice that an applicant played football for LSU. Having Texas or Alabama on the app probably won't get them a lot of mileage over listing LSU.
I know several former players and being an ex-Tiger does help.

Seems like he and Beckwith are really similar. Emotions aside, which would y'all rather have? Would they both have found playing time?

The Torshiro flip stung so bad because it occurred on the heels of the Collins disaster, and that NSD flip effectively ripped the scab right off from the championship game loss.
Jan and Feb of 2012 were dark days my fiend...

Hey what can you say, he was 17, or so, at the time, and we have fans that say,
Here's a tip. Step away from the computer and seriously think about what is important in your life.
I have no dog in the fight, but seriously, are you really taking part in Schadenfreude over an 18 year old?
