No Ryan led defense has ever made the post-season. I felt this was worth repeating.

And no team losing their final three games ever won the Super Bowl either.

And, to make it relevant, Ryan never had the Saints offense on the same side as is defense.

Oakland
Cleveland
Dallas

Have you seen these organizations lately? Dick Lebeau's defenses wouldn't have gotten those teams with their players to the post season, so stop laying all of this on Ryan.

Oh calm down people. It's not like he's terrible. Plenty of ya'll wanted him when he took the Rams job.

Holy shite. Thank you. Granted, the man didn't have much to work with in Dallas, but he's a hell of a motivator and with the right pieces, I see no reason as to why he can't be successful.

A fiery sideline disposition does not make him the same as Gregg Williams.

I don't mean all the bounty stuff specifically I mean by the SF playoff game Payton was clearly done with Williams personality-wise. Ryan isn't the same person but they're similar.

it may be that he is the favorite or even most likely but that he hasn't even interviewed yet and that Grantham is coming in Thursday makes it far from a done deal.

We all may have personal preferences for certain candidates but that preference for most is from the limited perspective of fans not professional football experience. So whoever it is I gotta trust Payton. He's got us this far and I have faith the golden age of Saints football will roll on. In short, whatever-whoever works!

I always get a chuckle out of the ST hacks crying NOOOOOO when the organization does something you disagree with. Let me guess, Paeyton must be fired for making such a terrible decision (if this is true)? I guess you all know more about Rob Ryan than Paeyton and Loomis do? Yeah, that makes sense. How about they maybe wanted a 3-4 DC that believes running an attack oriented scheme rather than a bend don't break scheme ala Crenell?

While I admit that the historical statistics of his defenses don't look flashy, there is a lot to be said for the terrible organizations he has worked for as well as the lack of talent. Dallas had a ton of injuries last year that directly effected their D, and Oak/Cle are jokes.

Is he my ideal hire for us? No. But neither is Crennell. I personally wanted them to target a position coach rather than a current DC that carries a big name. Am I upset that they didn't do what I wanted them to do? Hell no. That would be downright silly of me to think I know better than they do.

Stop whining, people. I feel like I am having flashbacks to 2009 draft when the fools on here were ripping this team for selecting Morestead. It's tiring.

Agreed!!!! A coworker and I were just saying this today. 15th ranked or better and we're New York bound...

Just hate that it's going to be a cold, wet, snowy superbowl. Coaches better start getting the players acclimated NOW!

I honestly thought a young, up and comer was the best option. Much like Payton in '06. Someone with something to prove and a fresh imagination.

My main two concerns with Ryan are 1.) Regardless of injuries, his defense in Dallas struggled with consistency with much more talent than we have right now. 2.) Say he does come out and have a good year, based on name recognition and this league's "what have you done for me lately" theory, there very well could be a few teams willing to give him a shot at head coach. Point being he could end up being a rental if he does have success.

I trust Payton and he usually seems to make good decisions regarding his staff, so I'll be anxious to see how it plays out.

He has a mediocre DC resume, at best. Now he's taking over the worst defense he's ever had.
