Coach was rather annoyed with officials today and rarely lets it show, but today he gave a great mean mugg after job fouled out and looked bleak, we made our run and when hickey hits the 3 to get it within 1 and a timeout is called, coach mean mugged entire gym.

Does anyone have video of it? We all noticed it and loled but wasnt on dvr tv

That's a pretty common occurence on the road. I was surprised we got those two calls at the end. They were both legitimate, but getting two calls like that on the road doesn't happen all that much.

We deserved fair officiating after the travesty that setup Coleman, JOB III and Hickey with 4 fouls each with like 4-5 minutes to play.

CJJ was super pissed the entire game. Can't help but think he'll treat this game like Saban did Kentucky 2002.

He should be.

Fair analogy. Of course we got the same thing right back at us at Arkansas that same year.

I was surpised and happy with the emotion CJJ showed today. I think it was deserved and I think the team fed off it. I'm gla he wentto the press so early and I think he did a great job coaching on a day that shots weren't falling.

I had some issues with some of the substituions and I am still a bit frustrated at some of our zone and half court offensive sets.

But I also liked the emotion he showed for a change, and that he stuck with the press even though it was probably less successful than it had been most other times this year.

I think it was still a significant advantage for us against State, and sticking with it kinda got the game into a helter-skelter pace which over the long haul against State...40 minutes.. favors us, because they have less depth than we have.

Yea both offensively and defensively, MSU started to regress in the last 10 minutes. That help defense started getting a little slow to recover, those passes started getting sloppier and those shots they had been hitting all game stopped falling

Love CJJ's demeanor the entire game, he coached for 40 minutes when we couldn't hit anything. TJ would have gotten beaten by 40 yesterday. Nice to see the kids playing hard the entire game and some real coaching going on. We should be excited for the future of our program especially with the talent coming in.

Speaking of TJ, TCU got stomped by Texas 60-43 but his defense sure did work. But he doesn't have an offense!

Funny bc I swear we were down 17 to the same team last year & came back to win in OT.

TJ is a decent coach but just wasn't a good fit here. I don't know why people feel the need to throw him under the bus anytime they want to give CJJ a compliment. Let it go people

TJ was probably the worst game coach I have seen in D1 bb, TCU got to be scratching their heads at this point. WTF were they thinking?

Yeah, I never really even accepted that the "good coach but bad recruiter" thing.

I just had too many issues with his bench coaching and game planning to even give him that. I think I could count on one hand the number of times I think he out-coached somebody, and most of those were against Stansbury.

I thought the one thing he had going was his resolve to do things right and hold players accountable off the court, but even that he went to far in IMHO and compromised recruiting.

The APR stuff for example, that was just BS overcompensating.

I am really not sure what his problem was. When he did not recruit his first couple of years here, I was like WTF is he doing. I think he was just lazy to be honest. I know for a fact I saw him one time in three years watch Brian Bridgewater play who is one of the top players in the state. I said from day one Marcus Thornton made him look like a genius. He was the wrong guy from day one who is the luckiest man I have ever seen to land another D1 job.

That was very strange. The official word was that he was holding the schollies for a bigger and better haul the next year. But that refrain continued and the bigger and better year never came.

I posted this about TJ a couple days ago, sums it up...

quote:

(In response to someone saying he deserved the years he got) Sure, but it's basketball and a quick turnaround is easily possible through recruiting. TJ would fool us each and every year with that, he would get just 1 "big" player and we would be like "oh well we have...

...Aaron Dotson coming in" - circa 2009
...Matt Derenbecker coming in" - circa 2010
...Johnny O'Bryant III coming in" - circa last season

Then after a third consecutive disastrous season, we had to get rid of him because we realized the only "big time" players he was getting were turning out to be busts (thank God JJ came to save JOB III's career) and he could never fill the roster out nor even fill what roster spots he did with SEC quality players.

I'm happy he brought in Hickey, JOB III and Stringer...but look at who else he brought in.

Chris Bass
Aaron Dotson
Eddie Ludwig
Jalen Courtney
Matt Derenbecker
Ralston Turner
John Issac

I mean yikes...just yikes. 4 guys who transferred out and 3 guys who would have trouble making a Sun Belt team.

So in 4 years recruiting he brought in 3 quality players, 4 guys who left the program and 3 guys who should never see the court in the SEC.

Meanwhile, while we knew we would struggle this year thank to TJ's inability to recruit, we can safely sit back now and say, "oh well we have...

...Jarell Martin, Jordan Mickey, Tim Quarterman and John Odo ALL coming in" - circa today

Plus, we have a watchable brand of basketball now, even this year when we are very short handed.

agreed, however i didn't like that we switched from trapping them to just full court man to man once we tied it. the press was working so well on them and then we stopped and they ran off 6 in a row on us. I can't wait to see jones coaching once we have legit depth

I was at the game, sitting behind the bench.
CJJ was more animated than I've seen this year.
Tore his jacket off and flung it in a seat, challenging refs to the point of nearly getting a technical . And REALLY rallying the team with emotion and intensity in the last 5 mins or so. The kids responded, got re-energized, were pumped to a man, including all bench players.

He actively coached all game, in every time- out huddle all the kids were paying supreme attention to coach. You didn't always see that when Trent was coaching, players would be looking around during TO's.
JOB was really out of sorts in the 1st half . Came back to the bench deflated several times.
This is when I saw how good Hickey is as a leader. He went and sat with him (right in front of him actually) and talked to him for several minutes while he was on bench for foul trouble. Hickey never looks downhearted , frustrated or angry on the bench. He watches the game with intensity, if he sees something and gets up to talk to CJJ.
So even when he 's not on the floor he's into the game 100%.
Really turning into a true point guard. Is confident enough to be a leader now.
Very proud last night.

I like our kids Brit. Co-worker of mine brought his 5-year-old to a one day basketball camp and said JOB3 was very good with all the kids and really went the extra mile.
