I'm looking for suggestions as I'm an avid fan. I've seen many and pride my self on having decent knowledge on that era/genre.

Can anyone think of some obscure ones I might check out?

Prince of Darkness was always one of my favorites... but it was pretty popular so probably not a hidden gem.

I just started a thread for Mute Witness (1994) which you can watch the whole thing on youtube.

Check out some of the Italian giallo movies, particularly any made by Lucio Fulci or Dario Argento. Susperia, The Gates of Hell, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, and Zombie are all good to start with.

These are early 70's I'm guessing

'Tombs of the Blind Dead' is great, creepy undeads in that one if I remember

I know - I was just tying in that director to a movie. I remember watching it as a kid... For me it's so hard to separate what isn't good because it's so low budget and dated vs. what just isn't good. I'm admittedly not a horror buff, though.

The Evictors - 1979

A young couple just being married rents a house in a village in Louisiana. But they are not welcome because the inhabitants of the village look at them with distrust - in the house they rented were happening strange things in the past...

IMDB - The Evictors

YouTube - The Evictors (1979) Part 1

(Its also available on Netflix instant)

I love Zombi 2, but The Beyond gets an enormous amount of unwarranted hype.

I'll never forget that tractor doing a wheelie. Perfect climax to a great scene.

I watched Humanoids from the Deep (1980) yesterday for the first time. It's one of those movies that is so bad its good. The acting is the worst I've ever seen in a film and the effects are soooo cheese.

There is absolutely no plot other than mutated fish monsters suddenly appear in a small fishing village and start killing all the men and raping the women. And they really really like to rape... and they show it! lol

I use to love Friday the 13th The Series from the mid 80's. Not traditional horror, but very good.
