I went down to Decatur Street for lunch today, just to soak up some of the excitement. It was fun.
ESPN has 5-6 stages in a row, side-by-side in the Jax Brewery parking lot. They were broadcasting the Scott Van Pelt show and I was able to walk right up to the stage. I took a few pics.
There was some other show being broadcast next to it, but I didn't recognize the hosts, it was like 5 or 6 people in a row on stools. I could have reached out and tapped the one guy right on his shoulder while he was on the air.
A cameraman with a shoulder mounted camera came by to get a crowd shot (I backed out because I was taking a "late lunch"!) Everyone started shouting "Who Dat"!
I ate at Masperos which had no line at all! When we went to leave, the bartender told us that Drew Brees was supposed to be on "The Talk" in Jackosn Square at any minute. We were running late to get back to work, so we headed in the other direction. When we were right in front of the Crescent City Brewhouse, who else comes walking fast towards us with a police escort - Drew Brees! He passed so close, his shoulder actually brushed against me.
Some fat lady shouted, "Hey Drew, you're late!" I told her, "Drew Brees is never late. He arrives exactly when he wants to, so STFU!"
All in all, a memorable lunch time on the eve of the Superbowl.

Is it worth fighting the madness to try to get in to town today or tomorrow coming from Baton Rouge? I have no idea where to park, I usually park at the RiverWalk/Shops at Canal Place and I know that is not available.

I think so. It's a fun time and the city has never looked better. There's 3-4 cops on every damn corner, so it's as safe as it's going to get.
It's a different crowd than usual. There's a higher proportion of big spenders. The streets aren't as crowded as you would think, because people aren't just buying cheep "Big arse Beers" and walking the street, they're actually IN the bars and shops and restaurants, spending real cash.
Lots of big name people walking around. Athletes, sports personalities, actors and musicians, etc.
If you come to town, avoid the St. Charles/Poydras/Tchoupitoulas exits off of Hwy 90 (Bridge approach). Take the Slidell split down by the Superdome to stay on the I-10, and get off at the Vieux Carre (Orleans Ave.) exit, or the Esplanade exit, and then come up from the back side of the Quarter. I suspect that the parking over there will be much the same as any other Saturday since most of the out of towners flew in.
Good luck.

you wont have another illness again for at least 10 years.
But, i dont know what is more amazing, touching Brees or not having to wait in line at a place in the quarter on New orleans superbowl weekend.

Not here in New Orleans, but I did have a cool experience in Miami for the Saints Superbowl. Me and the wife were taking pictures outside the stadium and all. When we decided to head in, I looked to my left and was side by side with Evander Holyfield. He had on black and gold beads. I got a picture with him. We talked for a minute as we walked in. Then I realized I just walked in through a VIP/Celebrity entrance. I guess since I was walking with him talking, they thought I was supposed to come in through there.

I've been chauffeuring around a friend of my dads boss who is an actress and her husband played in the league for many years. I've been getting to meet all kinds of people being with her all weekend. She did an interview with Michelle beadle for her new show and I got to go in and meet her, Eric decker, and jj watt. Cam newton was there but a complete arse. wouldn't talk to anyone and just had a pouty face the whole time.
Saw victor Cruz at the marriot. I told my "client" tonight jokingly that when I dropped her off at drews charity event that I was going to just park and go in. Well she walked up said I was with her and they put me on the list. Got to meet drew and fujita was there. Also ran into landon donavan at harrahs haha. Also saw keyshawn with two broads on each arm walking down convention center Blvd last night. Joe buck is a tiny man, way smaller than I expected. Saw howie long and john madden in palace cafe.
Basically if you walk around the city you'll see famous people on every corner. I'll post a picture I took with drew when I get home.

Mime was at the last super bowl in NOLA in 02. I used to dj with a buddy of mine when I was in college. We got contracted to provide music in between bands at the NFL corporate party in the arena. Once the game started, all the patrons went next door, so we got to do whatever we wanted.
Shook hands with Howie Long as he was going to do the pregame show on the field. He's a big dude.
I was standing in a portal on the field next to two fbi agents waiting for President Bush 41 to walk back from the coin toss. Got to shake his hand.
Mariah Carey sang the national anthem. Got to see her as she exited the field.
I basically stood in the portal and watched the first quarter.
Went back to the arena, where they had the game on the jumbotron. We hung out with the band, watched the game, ate the catered food, and drank beer. Got to see U2 on their way to the halftime show. Bonos entourage came out and made us put our cameras away because he has "sensitive eyes".
Went back to the dome and watched a good part of the second half. Made it back to the arena to see vinateri make the kick, then we had to start playing again.
Best part? I made $300 cash for going to the Superbowl.

I remember how fun it was at the Dallas v Denver super bowl many moons ago. just electric. the doomsday defense was on fire. Dallas forced 8 turnovers and honestly the game was closer than it should have been and the final was like 27-10.

I have had a good week so far. Came back from a business trip on Wednesday and Adrian Peterson was on my plane. Incredibly nice guy and offered to take a picture with me without me having to ask. Also saw Arian Foster leaving baggage claim.
Went to the NFL experience on Thursday to beat the crowd. Stood about 4 feet away from Deion and Irvin while they were on air. Thought the convention center was setup really well.
Ate at root Friday night. Alec Baldwin and NPH were both dining.
Went to the quarter this morning and it wasn't too crowded either. Parked on Canal before the interstate and then took the street car the rest of the way in. Walked past Tony Dungy and his wife on Canal. They were just doing the tourist thing.

Went down to the Quarter today. Just the vibe and excitement of the city is amazing. Walked around a lot, saw the Sports Reporters air their show for tmw morning and then we went grab drinks in the Westin where we saw Warren Sapp before heading out. Then we went to the Sheraton and we saw Jay Glazer there, great guy. All around it was a great day.

was on the nfl honors red carpet today. top 5 experience in my life. shook hands with Jerry Rice gave Rodgers a discount double check, asked Marshawn Lynch if he wanted some skittles, high fived Troy Aikman, Joe Namath, Barry Sanders, and so many more. such a great time.
