What do film subsidies and ethanol subsidies/mandates have in common??

Both were supported and in the case of film tax credits still supported by the Governor who claims to be a fiscal conservative. As a Congressman Jindal supported the first bills on ethanol subsidies in a bow to the sugar industry. Now as Governor film tax credits have exploded to be more than $200 million annually--more than he needed to make up budget shortfalls BTW.

Anyone who give any criticism of Gov. Jindal must be a crony Edwin Edwards lover.

I am not the best with economic jargon, but I do know that after what Jindal has done for Louisiana, we are a much more attractive place for businesses to move to. We are also doing much better fiscally than we have in years. I think some of the issues we are having now with the budget are issues we should have always had with the budget but the previous administrations did not touch on them out of political fear. Bringing the budget into the black means cut had to be made. It's not fun or fair, but neither is life.

As far as corn and film subsidies, I think both of these help LA. As governor and congressman, it's his job to help LA. We'll take all the money we can get. The hard part is spending it on the right things and not overspending.

Do you really think the entertainment industry would film as much as they do in Louisiana without those credits? Do you think the tax revenues collected would be as high once you factor in all of the economic activity?

They both happen in Germany?

Dude, you made this SAME EXACT ARGUMENT about 6 months ago.

Almost verbatim.

He should just raise taxes on the film industry and we could have a surplus!

of course not--we are paying 30% of their expenses

tax revenues would be much higher. Biggest sham every laid on taxpayers is that those films produce enough income through "economic activity" to pay their own way.

Voted for and contributed cash money and real work to Jindal in 07. Did not vote in 11.

I just posted facts about the Governor. Are you proud of them or not? Perhaps you think he should pay 30% of more industry's expenses with our tax dollars? Maybe you think we should have 50% ethanol and subsidize it at $5 per gallon?

simplier than that---he could make the film industry use the tax credits against their own income tax liabilities and it would not cost us anything and they would still get the credits.

Better than both---just do away with corporate income taxes altogether in Louisiana. We collect very few anyway and then give a whole bunch of them away to hollywood film makers and stars. (You know that we pay up to 35% of actor's pay in these movies? up to $1 million?)

Films are only here because of the credits. That's a lot of jobs and ripple effect. Also boosts state tourism.

A non polluting industry ad well. Exxon shouldn't catch all the breaks

I am waiting on an explanation of this logic.

Fuel cost of 15-20% more and food cost of at least 20% more is good for the citizens of Louisiana??
