And you can do that at Academy or Wal-Mart. Guns are stolen out of cars and homes every day.

Rex, what about that homicide loophole?

You know the one where a criminal "who sees a gun he wants but doesn't want to submit to an instant background check can have his friend kill someone and get their guns for him. The loophole is that criminals know that they can choose more cheaply from a wider variety of guns at people's homes than from private sellers."

Well, Joshjrn (that's me, by the way, in case you've lost track again) is a dullard who showed you exactly how you were wrong concerning Silk Road and TOR.

I'm hoping that I'll eventually get something resembling a coherent retort or a Christmas card thanking me for curing your ignorance. Either will suffice, really.

I can:

Go to academy, have a background check done, and purchase a weapon

Go to a gun show, have a background check done and purchase a weapon

Where is the loophole?

Why in the frick would any criminal with a felony past apply for a background check if they know they will fail it?

They won't. Just steal one.

Care to cite the legal statute that states that? Or are you just making shite up as you go along?

Do you know what "de facto" means?

quote:

So basically, the "cutesy de facto dealers" are breaking the law. Where's the mythical loophole?

The loophole is that those sellers can state that they are not "engaged in the business" of selling firearms... that they're private collectors and not dealers. But I'm heartened to glean from your comment that those people should be conducting background checks despite the NRA's opposition.

You're taking credit for something you didn't do.

You cited some experience in an IRC channel as why you believed TOR users could be tracked. I explained why that analogy was incorrect. If you've any other arrows in your quiver, fire away.

Who says they're breaking the law, dullard? My post would suggest to any intelligent person that they're NOT NECESSARILY breaking the law, thus the loophole. More law would eliminate the loophole and THEN they'd DEFINITELY be breaking the law.

I don't have to buy a gun from a gun show to know that not "virtually all" guns sold there are from licensed dealers.

Agreed. You could listen to the numerous people that do this on a regular basis. But your ego won't allow that so... You believe everything that agrees with you foundationless construct. See...

Want video proof? How many times do I have to post this? LINK
Post it as many times as you like. Keep it up and I'll start posting videos of Shirley Sharrod talking about Obamas racist policies.

This. God damn the stupidity hurts.

Actually, it's quite stupid of you to swallow that b.s. at face value, as subsequent posts proved.

Get educated.

Ahhh, so even after video proof of your ignorance you continue to fight. I see how it works with you and the NRA... when it comes to guns don't trust your lying eyes.

re: There is no such thing as a 'gunshow loophole'

Lol keep digging.

But first go back to the beginning of the thread where you described a straw purchase as the loophole, then made claims about not being able to buy guns outside of gun shows that couldn't be checked then changed again to add " well gun shows are the easiest" to showing a video o a guy breaking the law. Then act as if another law is really going to show him. On top of all of that you claim you have only been to one gun show in your life, which suggest you are getting your talking points from you tube!

Again you are a loon and ignorant as hell when it comes to laws on this topic or how crimes are committed in general. But by all means keep posting! You have been bought and sold in this thread without any loophole!

It's latin for "in fact". You haven't stated any.

quote:

The loophole is that those sellers can state that they are not "engaged in the business" of selling firearms... that they're private collectors and not dealers.

I can state that a tomato is a vegetable, but that doesn't make it right. As I stated above, they are clearly breaking the law. Why are you not screaming for Eric Holder to do his job?
quote:

But I'm heartened to glean from your comment that those people should be conducting background checks despite the NRA's opposition.

Of course they should. Why aren't you screaming for Obama and Holder to enforce the laws already on the books? Why are you directing your angst at the NRA which supports instant background checks?

It is not that simple. Without an FFL you can't purchase wholesale from manufacturers, there are limits on interstate shipping, not to mention state regulations. It's not a matter of simply saying some magic words as your fantasy describes. Of course since you're a firearms expert, you already knew this, right?
