| For those people who keep coming up with trade proposals (Posted on 1/29/13 at 2:35 pm)
I've seen a lot of different ideas come up and rather than respond to each thread the same way every time I'll make a thread for it. Right now, we just don't have the pieces to make a big trade that will make us that much better. Everything I've seen is pretty much a lateral move at best and most of them solve one problem by opening up another problem and few of them do anything to help our bench play. The fact of the matter is, we are a young team in the middle of a rebuilding process, and one trade is not going to instantly make us a contender. The best we can hope for to become a contender soon is to make a huge FA signing with a guy like Josh Smith or Andre Iguodala. But in reality, its going to take time, and trading away guys like Vasquez and Lopez who have really been improving and are playing well together and trading away future draft picks just isn't the answer. We are young, and will just have to accept that our time is in the future.

At the very least big trades should probably wait for draft night when Lewis and Carrol are about to come off the books and we can take back contracts. Teams do stupid things if they think they are about to land a big FA, see Houston really over paying for Pau Gasol because they thought it would get them NeNe too. I could see Dallas giving us their 1st to take Shawn Marion and make a run at Dwight or CP3. Improve the SF rotation for a year, add more talent to the team, and keep the powder dry for 2014 Free Agency.

Well yeah that's pretty much what I'm referencing. Everyone here seems to have this grand idea of a blockbuster trade that will make us light years better. Smaller trades to help improve our bench play would be acceptable, but right now anything else is just expecting too much

Dallas doesn't have a 1st this year. They traded it for Lamar Odom last year.

Why is it so wrong for people to speculate? The Hornets do have assets they can move to acquire new players.

The Lakers should have to give that back Still, that's the kind of deal I'd look for, someone desperate to move an expiring contract for a 1st. This team still needs to add to the talent base. Dleaguers should be inactive practice players, not regular rotation players. Rent cap space for a year and then use your cap space in 2014 for a long term piece FA after you've raised the profile of the team with a competitive year.

That pick has been passed around like Lamar's in-laws. It went from Dallas to LA (Odom) to Houston (Jordan Hill) to OKC (Harden).

If that's the one then I believe it is top 20 protected so Dallas might actually own it this year.

And... you are correct. Protections, per RealGM-
quote:
top 20 protected in 2013, top 20 protected in 2014, top 20 protected in 2015, top 20 protected in 2016, top 20 protected in 2017 and unprotected in the 2018 Draft

How would that improve the SF rotation? Shawn Marion - ugliest shot in the NBA, not a good 3pt shooter, can't hit an open jumper, getting less athletic each year he gets older. Aminu - shot isn't that ugly, outcome of any shot outside of 5 feet from the rim equally as ugly as Marion, more athletic, and is hustling his arse off. At this stage Marion is a slightly less athletic Aminu who, while he does play hard, doens't play as hard as Aminu is now. Would not want this regardless of what/who we gave up, but I see where you're going with the thinking of a trade around draft time and like it.

I think it looks great...upgrade at SF, get a 1st round pick, and save the money for a better FA class.

You compared him to Aminu. I said he would improve the rotation. Compare him to Henry, Lance Thomas and Dominic McGuire.

if we are looking for older SF to just fill a role for a while, i'd rather someone like Richard Jefferson, at least he can shoot, or is a threat to shoot. and he had a pretty nice dunk when he came to the Hive recently. He's not really playing much in GS.
