But would they give us a first or a good prospect to move him? Again, this is a long term move who's goal is to turn cap space into talent. We really only have one more "throw away" year where it's excusable to not make the playoffs. By 2014 that cap space needs to be filled with a core player(s). Any production you get out of that salary slot next year is nice but not necessary.

if we are looking for older SF to just fill a role for a while, i'd rather someone like Richard Jefferson, at least he can shoot, or is a threat to shoot. and he had a pretty nice dunk when he came to the Hive recently. He's not really playing much in GS.

Depends on what the Warriors want for him.

They have $74m in salaries locked up for next year with Jarrett Jack as a UFA and Carl Landry potentially opting out of his PO.

Dumping Jefferson frees up $11m for them but they may want someone to take that worthless sack of shite Andris Biedrins and his $9m PO as part of the deal.

EDIT - Golden State has no picks for 2013 since they're clearly finishing out of the top 6 this year, meaning they can't trade us a 1st until the 2015 season.

this thread has far more insight in it than "i threw these three names into some machine on ESPN.com and it said it's OK, so I must be a GM because i'm that good"

is this years draft class supposed to be good? I was under the impression that it's not looking that great.
I'd rather build through FA, but i guess when your a small market that isn't that attractive, you kind of need the draft to build. Really need a top 5 pick for the rebuild purpose, and we might be closer to the 10 spot if we stay healthy this year.
I remember some stat showing the chances of a guy drafted outside the top 10 panning out to be a good player. If was basically saying that a guy drafted 12th has about the same chances of being a good player as a guy getting drafted in the 2nd round.
I think that's why you see so many fringe teams trading away first round picks. the pick still has a chance to be the #1 but really has little chance of the player turning out to be a contributor soon if it's in that 15th pick range.

worst in the past couple of years. But that doesnt mean that a team couldnt strike gold and get a great player somewhere outside of the first 3-5 picks

I have yet to see a trade where we give away someone like Vasquez or Lopez that makes us better. If we trade one of those guys who replaces them? Roberts or Rivers at PG? Davis at C?

Losing Lopez would not be that big of a deal long term wise.

If you move Greivis, of course they would need a point guard back in return.

Careful now, those are fightin words around here

I don't think he's being overly negative or opinionated and I don't think he's wrong either. Pretty much every trade I've seen is depending on best case scenario future projections for players that don't have much of a track record as a starter. They also typically involve many assets for one. Would I trade Vasquez or Lopez for an upgrade at a starter? Sure, but when you throw in the 2013 draft pick too it's just too expensive. The only trade I've seen and liked is hoping the Bucks would rather Vasquez at $2 million than Jennings at $10 million and you get a S&T like we did with Ayon for Anderson.

This is an odd thread.

It's the internet, people speculate. Does it annoy you or something?

Ok and this is my response to that speculation

I don't know, maybe its just because I'm not normally one to worry too much about who would should sign in FA and who to trade and so on because I don't like playing GM. We have no control over what goes on, so to me throwing random players into a trade machine to see what works based on what you think our team needs seems pretty meaningless to me.

If we hear rumors about a certain player on our team or another team being on the trade block, then I'm all for discussion. But most trades people come up with on here are just very unrealistic

No doubt, trade speculation is sometimes unrealistic or even silly. On the other hand, part of the fun of the message board is speculation on possibilities. It's a fine line (for me) between fun and dumbassery. I would just suggest that people think about something that's within the realm of possibility before tossing it into the trade machine to see if salaries work. But by all means have fun with the board. It's not like this shite is supposed to be fricking homework. I get CC's point but let's not get too uptight.

I don't know. Maybe it just pisses me off that people are so willing to trade Vasquez
