| Louisiana 5-A Baseball Playoff Changes (Posted on 1/28/13 at 11:18 am)
Just read about the playoff changes that will only effect class 5-A baseball. I agree with some but not all of the changes. I do feel like the best of 3 will allow the better team to move on. What I don't agree with is the fact that it will only take place in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I also don't agree with the inning limitations they put on pitchers. I know you don't want the kid to throw his arm out but a 10 inning limit per pitcher is rediculous. And when you add to it that a pitcher can't throw consecutive days if he pitched 4 or more innings the day before, it's starting to sound like little league.

Under the new format, the first round will still be single elimination. The second and third rounds will be a best-of-three series. The semifinal and final rounds will be single elimination.

One pitcher can pitch only 10 innings in a series.

It's probably a good thing. Coaches shouldn't be pitching kids into absurd pitch counts.

How will they handle this when Byrd plays at Jesuit in the 2nd round?

That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen......if anything the best of 3 should be in the semifinal/finals rounds. I assume they are doing that so the end of year tournament isn't messed up, but the changes are completely worthless in my opinion. Keep it coming LHSAA......can these morons even get out of their own way?

It should help pitcher's arms throughout the season. If you know you can't ride one pitcher to the state tournament, you are more likely to develop other guys throughout the year, spreading the innings out. I like the best of 3 series, it should have been implemented long ago.

Me too, just not for the 2nd and 3rd rounds..... Should the World Series be single elimination after the rest of the playoffs were best of 7?

Oh, I don't like the single elimination at the state tourney, but this is an improvement. At least now you should start to see more complete teams getting to the state tourney than teams with one hot pitcher that they ride into the ground.

I do agree with this part of it. I just don't understand why a kid that may only throw 4 innings in game one can't come back and throw a couple in game two. I played HS, college and pro. In HS they threw the shite out of me. In college not so much, but it wasn't unheard of to throw the first game of a series and then close out the next game if it was of any importance. If you want to limit innings do it during the regular season.

I agree with the pitching regulations after the two jackass coaches last year.

But if the first round is still single elimination, that team the one hot pitcher will cheese the upset in the first round and then get hammered in the second. They should have DE in the first round to keep them out of the second.

I never said it's a prefect system, just that it's an improvement.

Best of 3 for the middle rounds, but not for the finals? What?
