| Bryan Singer still not seeing how miscast the X-franchise was (Posted on 1/27/13 at 3:00 am)
Singer intent on bringing back the crap, what a wasted chance it to recast some of the weakest links of the X-films with Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore and Anna Paquin all coming back to reprise their roles. I was never a fan of how Fox has handled the X-Men franchise, it's casting outside of very few or the division of screen time among the actors. It seems like Singer is "getting the band back together" and this is likely just his own "X-Men 3". I strongly believe Halle Berry will be making an appearance in this movie as well.

It's exactly what the franchise doesn't need. Singer is a hack.

The first two were pretty good. The third sucked(which was Ratner). And First Class was great, and some of those people are going to be in this as well.

Singer took the fanzine route when he made X-Men. Cyclops used to be a badass in the comics. But Singer made him into a whiny douche cuckold so he could prop up Wolverine. Hell, He even pussified Wolverine to an extent. Ratner completely missed the mark on everyone.

Yup. This is underwhelming. Bad news.

Hugh Jackman held everything together in X1 and X2. Had it not been for him, I don't think I would have liked those two films. X-Men: First Class was better than the first two X-Men movies because there was better character development for just about every major character in the film. It was also very well acted, too. Also...Michael Fassbender IS Magneto. I didn't care too much for Ian McKellan's version of the character. As arguably one of the greatest comic book villains of all-time, McKellan sure had a hard time bringing out the menace that is inherent in the character. Fassbender, however, had no problem whatsoever letting the audience know this guy is somewhat of a monster.

this actually makes some sense since they are doing days of future past. instead of introducing new characters, you can return to familiar ones, saving plot time and making an audience connection that much easier. now if the original cast is part of the franchise going forward, that is a problem

It definitely was but I give the first one a pass. It wasn't bad for a genre of movie that was in it's infancy.

Aside from Halle Berry, who is a terrible actress, I don't think it was miscast. And Cyclops always was the Boy Scout who was cuckolded by Wolverine. That's in the source material (I do not recognize any X-Men not written by Chris Claremont). X-Men 3 was an absolute mess, but that wasn't Singer. X-Men 2 was pretty great, as it hued pretty close to God Loves, Man Kills. Don't get cute. Follow the story.

Hopeful they'll all have small roles, otherwise it could end up a disaster due to too many characters. I hope the first class characters aren't overshadowed by the old cast and I hope he's only bringing them back for this film and not any future ones.

I stopped reading X-Men after Claremont left the first time during the 90's. He was THE X-Men scribe as far as I'm concerned. But when he first came aboard, Cyclops was a pretty strong character. It wasn't until after John Byrne left that he started turning Summers into a wimp. I actually used to love Wolverine. He was a punk before Byrne got there but he helped round him out and made him an ass-kicker. Same with the Claremont/Frank Miller mini-series and then when Paul Smith took over on art.

The only one I have a problem with is recasting Ellen Page. They need to completely disassociate themselves from the third movie. The first two were good movies. The second one I think is still one of the better made superhero movies. Singer knows how to do the gay parable part really well, he's just not very good with the full-blown action sequences.

Too bad Bishop isnt in Days of Future's Past like in the cartoons. For none other than to hear Wolverine say the line.. "You two better stop acting up...or these cards wont be the only thing I'm cutting" Just how it was executed in the cartoon was amazing. *sigh* The good ole days.

Wolverine and Cyclops have basically switched roles in the comic's now. Cyclop's has grown into a badass general and Wolverine is in the Prof X role at the school. Anyone that wrote off Xmen after Claremont have missed out a lot of good reading. Since Morrison's run in 2000, Cyclops and the whole franchise have improved on a consistent basis. And I'm not a fan of the move's Singer is making so far but maybe the old cast will only make small appearances leaving the bulk of the film to the First Class cast.
