re: There are three players the Hornets should consider

Kelly Olynyk should be the Hornets #1 pick. He is going to be one of the most dominate players in the NBA over the next decade. In fact I don't think there is a player who is playing at a higher level in this years draft right now than Olynyk.

This could definitely be a fluke sample where Vasquez is just hitting more shots than normal.

But going from a poor 3pt shooter in college to a near excellent one in the pros is improvement. He has worked on his shot and it has gotten better.

We will see if it lasts.

everyone wants a scoring 3, but with a healthy roster this has been a top 10 offense this year.

This team is not a top-10 offense. Don't care what the 8-game sample size says. they also don't play defense very well.

if aminu continues playing like this, you resign him. work on his shot all summer- if vasquez can learn to shoot, so can al.

You say that like its simple. I do, too, hope we keep Aminu around.

then sign one of dunleavy/budinger/brewer as competition and depth.

Only Brewer is worth looking at on this list. And his half-court offense is putrid. He plays in literally the perfect system for his game.

No, it's not nearly as lethargic as it was without him in the beginning of the season, but our half-court sets still leave ALOT to be desired.

Best case scenario 2): Draft Shabazz, re-sign Aminu. Open the season with Aminu starting, see if Shabazz can beat him out by the All Star Break.

Shabazz don't bring anything else to the table besides scoring, bruh.

When you combine his APG, BPG and SPG it's like less than one per game.

Smith is obviously the better player. Never have said otherwise. But the main complaint you've had with Aminu is that he can't shoot. Well neither can Smith. To me, it doesn't make much sense to spend an extra $10-12million per year for a guy that doesn't fix what seems to be your main complaint.

You cray. Isn't that how the kids say it?

If we got the real JSmoove for $10-12 million a year, I'd learn how to do a back flip then do them.

Like I said in the thread I linked, I'll go back and check at the All-Star break and see where they stack up. Then again at the end of the year. Could very well be just a hot streak.

FYI- their average offense rating over the 4 games (including last night's shite show) since I posted that thread is 112 (BR) and 109 (Hoopdata).

Again, I will update that thread a couple more times to get a better picture.

quote:

You say that like its simple.

It's not simple. He has to spend countless hours in practice and off season on his shot. But it's not some crazy idea that a guy can become a better shooter by working on it. He doesn't need to become a dead-eye jump shooter, just good enough to keep a defense honest.

quote:

I said an extra $10-12million more than Aminu- meaning a max contract for Smith (my numbers could be way off on what Smith's max would be). But yes, if Smith would come on board for $10-$12 million per, you jump on it.

But Smith still doesn't solve the problem that most claim is the number one offseason fix- a SF that can shoot.

Otto Porter should be at the very top of the Front Office's draft board.

Porter is a stat sheet filler who contributes in many different ways.

He's finally showing his ability to shoot the basketball, making 11 of his last 21 3-point field goal attempts in his last five games.

No to Otto Porter, Pelican's don't mess with palindromes.

No to Shabazz Mohammed, he sounds like a terrorist/magician.

No to Kelly Olynyk, he's a white from canada. That's two strikes right there. Probably a commie too.

No to Anthony Bennet, he's probably got gambling debts, he'll probably throw games.

No to Michael-Carter Williams. People with hyphenated names are a-holes, and it shows they're indecisive, can't be indecisive on the court.

The only acceptable answer is Ben Mclemore. He'll bring huge upside to our .gif game and we can play Thrift Shop or And We Danced every time he scores. It's a no brainer

You plan on winning the lottery again?

Until it actually happens and we don't win it, that's exactly what I plan on doing

Great shooter, distributor, ball handler

I don't know what I'm missing. Draft analysts have him outside of the lottery.

I think he's the best guard in this draft outside of McLemore

He is a stretch 4 like Shawn Marion

Shawn Marion is a SF. He only plays PF when his teams play small ball. You probably think Amare and Al Horford or really center's.

And how can guys who can't shoot like Marion and Smith be "stretch" anything? "Stretch" implies that the player spreads the floor with his shooting. You crapped all over your own point.

Not at all and absolutely capable in today's NBA.

His best seasons came playing as a 4 on title contenders in PHX.

Amare was unstoppable on offense as a center and Horford is a modern NBA center.

They aren't shooters, but they are perimeter players on offense. When they are at the 4, their speed and quickness eat up opposing 4s. Even if they aren't good shooters, defensive 3 second rules force their man to go out and guard them where they have the advantage. As 3s, they lose that advantage.

IMO Smith won't work on the Hornets because of the projected Anderson/Davis pairing in the frontcourt. Either Smith or Anderson is playing the 3, which isn't the position for either of them. You're then spending at least 1/3 of the cap on Anderson and Smith to play out of position or not play together at all.

I don't think Smith is a fit here. Plus, there's only room for one J Smoove.

Yeah, I don't get it either about Burke. I mean, I've only watched him play once so far, but was really impressed. I hate saying this, but he reminded me a lot of CP3 at Wake. Kinda similar numbers minus perimeter shooting and steals.

Making sure I'm not the only one confused at the little attention he's getting.
