Why are Preist and Goodman such a "must get"?

Don't get me wrong, they may be excellent DBs, and would love to see them in purple and gold. But we already have 5 DBs committments (Brazil, Cutrer, Jefferson, Robinson, and White). And all of them are 4 stars...if stars really mean anything. Priest and Goodman are just two more 4 star DBs.

As LSU seems to always be stacked at the DB position, I don't recall us ever taking more than 5 DBs in a class. And I don't think we've ever had a DB class ranked higher (star wise), with all 5 coming in as 4 stars.

'12 5 DBs (1 - 4 star; 4 - 3 stars)
'11 4 DBs (2 - 4 stars; 2 - 3 stars)
'10 4 DBs (ALL 4 stars)

Because we play 5 DBs on nearly every defensive possession?

Its called attrition. You sign more than you need, weed out the ones that can't cut it, and so on.

Also, Robinson isn't a sure fire lock to be a part of this class.

This. You get Priest and Robinson defects no big deal. You don't get him and he defects it hurts.

Robinson could flip and has grade issues and Cutrer may have grade issues as well, which would leave just White and Jefferson if Diarse is a lock for WR.

For 2014 Jones, Brown and Paris are all take regardless, who else in 2014?

I mentioned this point last year. It was once said that LSU DBs are stacked and we didn't have to take a DB. But when you add up the high draft pick DB losses over the years, you must realize that this level of talent doesn't just magically appear. The term DBU is not set in stone, and this late season performance has me a bit worried. Priest Willis is a potential all sec caliber player. Why would you not consider him a must get?

Hardman will probably be a take. You can't just spurn a top talent from a power house school.

We do have a need at safety some may say. Good cover DB's that can tackle are difficult to find or define from high school ball. Many "cant miss DB recruits" do miss. So u must load up here and see who develops as a SEC DB. Also, the talents of both of these western boys and the opportunity to sign a big name from that part of the country and possibly open another avenue into LSU recruiting is very appealing to the staff. Its definetely a priority to get these guys in more ways than 1.
Must get? nah

They're not necessarily a must get, but they are 2 of the top players in the nation and are interested in LSU. Why not?? Willis and Goodman are both better than all of our DBs currently committed with the exception of White. And as mentioned before, Robinson isnt exactly a solid commit at the moment.

Personally believe another DL would be more of a must.

Goodman > priest, but because we have a better shot at Willis people have seemed to favor him. They both are stud prospects and play very physical defense. They are big and can run and hit. Willis as a shut down corner is very valuable, but he can also play either safety position. Goodman is a safety prospect, but could start as early as we saw pp do it. And we have some talented safeties....some have played and some have not, but that is just how good goodman is.

I don't think that they are. In fact, if some top notch receivers would have a change of heart and want to come to LSU I would prefer them.
