| is the Republican Party's demise overblown? (Posted on 1/20/13 at 6:44 pm)
The GOP currently has control of the following: - US House of Representatives - 30 Governor seats - 27 State Legislatures - An unbreakable filibuster ability n the US Senate (45 members) - 1/2 of (5) State Legislatures Does this represent a political party that is on its last legs?

Where have you heard this? Who does it benefit to promote this? By this being said, does it move voters to the other party...

Republicans have lost my vote in the future... I'm an independent, but swore off voting for them if they botched the fiscal talks.

The party is sliding quickly. As more of the old school Republican support dies off from old age, it will continue to slip.

The downturn of a party rarely hurts incumbents. It hurts those who step up to replace retiring politicians. If the Republican Party doesn't move to the libertarian side on social issues, you'll start seeing new Republican politicians having an extremely difficult time being elected.

Yes and things can change dramatically over the course of a single administration. If things go South over the next 4 years with Obama/Dem economic policies clearly to blame, then don't be surprised if the tables are turned in 2016.

I don't see where GOP growth comes from. They nominated a presidential candidate who the others running for the nomination destroyed in the primaries. The GOP is more divided than the country.

Everyone thought the Dems were dead in the mid 80's. After 2-3 years more of a Dem president, the tide will turn. Always does.

150,000 votes in 4 states decided the election. If those go the other way, people would be wondering how the Chosen One lost and if America was saying no to liberalism.

Do you understand how quickly the demographics are changing in this country? Texas is projected to be blue by 2024. How is the GOP ever going to win the White House again if Texas goes blue??

If Texas goes blue, it's over, and not in a good way for the country

Link? ETA: Actually, I have my own link:
quote:
But in case anyone missed it, demographic changes haven't actually produced gains for Democrats in Texas. Despite favorable Latino turnout and support, Obama did worse in Texas than he did four years ago and lost by a decisive 16-point margin. Looking back further, Texas hasn’t moved to the left: the state was 19 points to the right of the national popular vote in 2012; hardly an improvement compared to 19 points in 2008, 20 points in 2004, and 15 points in 1996.
quote:
Whatever the exact figure, it’s clear that GOP gains among white Texans have overwhelmed advances in Latino turnout and support for Democrats.

Delusional. Wouldn't take much to swing it the other direction.

Yes. The Voter base is just as split as it has always been. Only difference is with Obama being black it caused an enormous minority turnout in voting compared to years past. 2016 will be a total different story...the fact that the GOP has control of the House and majority of State legislature and Governors is telling of what the people want.

So you would rather vote Democrat who will always frick up fiscally, or vote Libertarian which won't make bit of difference.
