I'm watching Jason LaCanfora and Jim Brown talking about that there is 8 new head coaches and none of them are African Amercans and that the league will have to do something about it.

C'mon you can't make people hire those they don't want. Just let things be dang, if an organization finds the right guy then that's who they want. By putting people in a position just to be diverse and for the sake of their skin color then your doing everyone a disservice. There's great coaches of all colors who do their jobs, leave the hiring up to the organizations and not political correctness.

Not enough black guys as kickers and punters,

next season every team has to draft a black punter or kicker according to the diversity committee.

Does having an Australian punter count as diversity?

I get the spirit of the rule, but NFL owners are going to hire the person whom they think gives their team the best chance to win, regardless of color.
What ends up happening is the minority coaches interview is really a slap in the face of the minority if they have no chance of being hired because the owner is only fulfilling the rooney rule obligation.

The stupid thing about it is that teams hire people based on their own needs. They don't look at the NFL as a whole and say "you know guys, there is a lack of black head coaches in the NFL. I want to hire this guy, but I think we should hire the black guy so that the NFL has a black coach."

That will never happen. The Rooney rule does absolutely nothing to ensure more black coaches get hired.

So I have no problem with the rule since teams can still hire whoever they want.

This. It's a waste of time and they're just being used because of their skin color.

The Rooney Rule is much more racist than not having the requirement. Imagine being the best one or two black coaches each year that is carted around simply for interviewing purposes for teams to meet this idiotic requirement.

How about if there are not any qualified minority candidates to hire. It is a shame that these teams are required to interview minority candidates even though they have no intention of hiring them. The ones that get hired should know going in their interview is just a show to not get in trouble with the league.

It's not so much the rule I have a problem with, it does allow minority coaches to get high profile interviews to at least get their name out there. It's just the constant media presences by people about we need more black coaches, especially people like Rob Parker and idiot Jemelle Hill. A black head coach brings the same thing a white coach does its just whoever the organization wants.

I've always said more black players make it to the league and stay while a lot of white players fizzle out after high school or college and go into coaching, that's it, that's why there are so many white coaches.

If I had to interview for a job soley so the employer could meet a requirement forced onto them when the owner already has an offer ready to another coach, I'd be pretty pissed. Just scrape it.

Just to make a few things clear, the Rooney Rule is an NFL rule, not a Federal Government rule. No government body is forcing these NFL teams to interview minority coaches. This rule is a requirement to be a part of and compete in the NFL. The NFL is a private organization. Teams are free to leave the NFL if they do not want to abide by the Rooney Rule.

Isn't this a mantra of the pseudo-Libertarianism that pervades TD.com? You know: private organizations and businesses get to set their own rules and practices?
