Im not gonna get into the tireless debate over what is a jamband, comes up monthly, i will say that phish doesnt belong in the same class as the dead. Nobody does.

My comments:

UM is too low
Biscuits too low
Lotus is too low
I don't even know what Zero is
Does Phil and Friends even count?
ABB belongs with GD and Phish
WSP sucks

Ween is sick and one of my favorite bands but there are several interviews with Gener where he specfically says "we are not a jam band. I hate the jam band scene."

Well it's too bad they're a jam band.

Ween? A jamband?

I feel like The Doc saying this, but Ween is not a jamband. I can only think of a very few songs they really stretch out and improvise. Voodoo Lady, Tear for Eddy, and they don't really improvise those at all.

Do yourself a favor. Go over to the archive and give them a listen. Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega. Awesome band from the 80s and 90s that bring it like few others.

I think they do. The band with Warren and Jimmy were probably one of the greatest bands ever assembled. They reinterpreted the Dead's catalog in a totally different and unique way. Even dusting off songs the Dead hadn't played in 20 or 30 years.

ABB should be #1

This, plus Greatful Dead and Phish couldn't hold Galactic's jock-straps

Grateful dead is the clear cut number one with ABB being the clear number 2. After that Phish and WSP are in the same category no matter what phish fans want to believe

Every time I've seen them (3 times about 3 years apart) - they've been a different band. They improvise different songs to a different extent. The time they decided they were a country band being the best example.

Please. Phish had their OWN festival with over 100,000 attendees. They played the world's biggest concert at the turn of the millennium (which at the time, was a big deal). They have toured all over Europe and even Japan.

I have never met a true jam band fan who likes Phish more than WSP. Phish fanatics are like people who say they are Reggae fanatics but only listen to Marley.

Wsp fans listen to every thing they can get their hands on. Phish fans listen to phish and get offended when anyone else listens to anything else

Phish has sold out Madison Square Garden 27 times, including 7 New Year's Eve shows. That is a venue record in what is generally considered the greatest arena in the world.

Phish has hosted 9 of its own festivals, with a peak attendence of over 100,000.

Please post similar WSP figures.
