generally they have awful lineups and it's basically the worst way to see a band/artist. I'll give a little credit to festivals in that they turn people on to bands/artists they've never heard before and can be a jumping point, but really it's just the worst way to see a concert. festivals are a necessary evil, and for the most part they just have shitty bands and a lot of awful people to be around.

I disagree and I think you're going to the wrong festivals but to each their own

judging by the festivals you listed in your op, you've only ever been to the wrong ones.

I didn't start this thread

The only two festivals I listed are waka and mountain jam.

Waka is easily in the top 3 fests every year and mountain jam has a fricking phenomenal lineup so what would be the "right" festivals then????

Bonnaroo's lineup isn't out yet is it?

shite disregard my statement about their lineup. Went back to the blog where I read about the lineup and it's all conjecture. They're doing clue haiku's and I'm not interested enough to dick with digging around what people have come up with.

oh, my bad. thought you were the op. at any rate, considering waka in your top 3 for festivals immediately eliminates you from a discussion of festivals. please log off. wakarusa has never had a good lineup.

wtf do you call a good lineup then?

No wonder you don't like festivals. You apparently don't like festival bands

seriously? you know more than jam bands and awful electronic bands play at festivals don't you? some festivals do get good bands, wakarusa is just certainly not one of them.

I don't dislike festivals because I dislike the bands at all of them, I dislike festivals because it's literally the worst way to see a band.

That's mountain jam's lineup....

If you don't like that lineup then you don't like the bands that are routinely called "festival kings"....

And that's fine if its not your thing

ToddKillsSquids is either an extremely snobby music dickhead, or an incredible music board troll, one or the other. The guy's a clown

Loved Outside lands last year. Lineup, set up, and San Fran as a whole was pretty awesome.

I agree that Festival settings are terrible places to see rock 'n roll...

SXSW, MusicfestNW and CMJ are all pretty good "festivals," but they large majority of their shows are club shows and not outdoors...

That's why I love JazzFest, I dont even have to look at the schedule, because it usually doesnt matter...

I've become increasingly loyal to Fun fun fun Fest. More laid back vibe than ACL. Smaller venue, less people, and less "big" bands which is actually a virtue. At ACL, I saw Beck from about a mile away. It sucked, through no fault of Beck's. Rather see Titus Andronicus from the fourth row.

Oh, and there's a taco cannon and a skate ramp. And Mexican wrestling. I also liked how each stage was somewhat "themed", so you could dabble each kind of music: metal, electronica/hip hop, americana/rock, or punk.

I'll let you know when Rocklahoma releases its lineup if it can compete with Download.

2012 lineup was pretty diverse. Never been; want to go.
