Having watched several great movies this week, most of which I have seen a thousand times before, I started to talk to a buddy about some of the best movie casts ever built.

And no, I am not just talking about movies like New Year's Eve when they shove every single mother humper they can find into a shitty love story with twelve side stories. (Valentine's Day, I am talking about you too.)

I want to see a list of the BEST of them all. Here are a few I came up with on the fly...

Tropic Thunder
Saving Private Ryan
Crash
Ocean's Eleven
Pulp Fiction
The Departed
Boogie Nights
LA Confidential
Heat
Glengary Glenn Ross
Sin City

Honestly don't think any other ensemble will ever beat this one. It is the GOAT of ensembles.

However, I am still looking to see what other ones are out there I might not have seen.

Christopher Walken
Bronson Pincho
Samuel L. Jackson

Sin City is a legit answer. Pt. 2 will be the same way.

When movies try and put together a cast with a ton of stars, it doesn't work out half the time. Bobby for example. You don't have to have William h Macy and Ashton Kuchar for your 8th and 9th most important characters. You're trying too hard.

For you older movie board readers....how about:

"Its A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"

Go to IMDb and see the list..certainly a group of stars of that time...movie still cracks me up

This one won't make the top ten list but for a random throwaway movie I nominate "High Spirits" 1988

Peter O'Toole
Liam Neeson
Daryl Hannah
Steve Guttenberg
Beverly D'Angelo
Jennifer Tilly
Peter Gallagher

That's a pretty fair list of stars for what amounts to a B+ level comedy

That's just a "massive cameo" movie. I think a little more character development is required to be considered ensemble, IMO.

and a lot of them are not exactly household names like say the Oceans 11 type movies (plus sequels)

I wasn't actually being serious. I've been holding a Fringe wake since 9:00.

Gotta go, Bag of Donuts is coming back on stage.
