On our lease in between Kaplan and Gueydan, we usually destroy the greys. This year, it is all spoons and scaup. We have killed around 250 ducks and about 100 of those ducks are spoons and scaup. The past five years in the rice fields we have killed maybe 2 or 3 scaup a year. We have also killed a few redheads, canvasbacks, and goldeneyes. All this damn water is bringing the diving ducks up to the rice fields.

If I hunted in Mississippi where a couple of these boys do it would be about 82% mallards, 9% woodies, 6% gads, and 3% gw teal. Instead I just bang a few woodies in the crick behind the ol house place.

Dogris...
My friend called a scaup this other day. Is there a difference or is a lesser/greater scaup?

No idea...growing up in Terrebonne Parish, we've always called scaup "dogris"

Probably a very close race between teal, mallards and pintails. We had more big ducks earlier than normal. Been a pretty good season for our camp.

Scaup is a dos Gris, lesser and greater. Not to be confused with the ringneck.

Mallards by far
A fair amount of pintails
A few teal and greys
a couple of wigeon
Almost nothing else save for a stray woody or accidental spoony death

Mostly greys and mottled ducks . We have killed a few pintail and mallards also in Pecan Island south of 82 in Miller Corp.

Most years, its teal by a long shot. This year, hands down, mallards.
On several occasions, we've killed a limit of mallards and had to roll out because we hadnt even seen a different species in a few days. It sounded like a cooler issue than it is proving to be.
Want to reiterate that we are killing good numbers of mallards. By no means are we seeing good numbers of anything. We've just had to be mobile and take some real long walks to unconventional spots.
