I think some of the extremely desperate teams that don't want one of those matt flynn, alex smith, vick, etc. vets will leapfrog into the top 5 to secure geno smith.

I can see a team like KC trade down into the teens, get a 2nd rounder also and use that pick on barkley or someone that had their stock drop.

Ansah is coming down to the Senior Bowl.

Good to know. Hope to make the game this year and see him game time. I've been high on this guy but not at 15.I know everyone wants to trade down and gather picks but if there ever was a year to do this...its this one.My dream scenario is to trade down, get some extra picks and still land 'the ansah. We need young cheap talent.

Was it Sed Ellis who had a great senior bowl week of practice and got on our radar?

Yes. He was a clear stand out that week, got a lot of media buzz.

I try and make it a point to go and watch the North practices myself. Not knowing much about those players is why I do it. I mean we get exposed to a lot of SEC ball around here so no need to run and watch the South team who is usually watered down with Alabama and Auburn players. Its interesting to me either way but I prefer watching the North more.

If we waste a pick on Sam over the potential of this dude I will be quite pissed.

I dont like the Jimmy Graham comparison at all.

Jimmy is talented, but Brees plays a huge part in that.

defense is a little different. It is much more dependent on the players technique and talent than a player on offense.

bottom line, his lack of production scares me. Not his athleticism.

too big of a risk for a 1st round pick.

Just thought I'd let you know that Stansly Maponga and Josh Boyce are coming out from TCU this year (Boyce has his degree and Mapongs will finish on time).

If Maponga is still sitting there in the late 3rd - He'd be worth jumping up a few spots for. Boyce we don't need but he'll go in the 3rd as well, I think.

First off, props to putting in the work for this.
Now concerning the saints pick, i would be disapointed if we get a DE and its not Sam Montgomary if hes available.

Just read this on a mock draft page.....

quote:

The Saints didn't get much pressure on the quarterback this past year. Cameron Jordan improved in this department over the second half of the season, but Will Smith looked like a shell of his former self. He's due $10 million in 2013, so he obviously won't be back.

AIH is writing mock drafts now???

thx for the frogs scouting troubl, I'll have more rounds the closer we get

I didn't put at the start but I try mocking what I think will go down- not what I think are the best picks.

This is the classic "take the sure thing or gamble on what you think is a higher upside?" scenario if Montgomery and Ansah were both available. I haven't seen Ansah and don't know where his upside truly is pegged. His stock is definitely on the upswing and could rocket with good show at the Sr Bowl & Combine. The similar example would be JPP who went #15 in 2010. It's to be seen whether his potential can push him that high. The Giants have certainly scored on that risk pick with 27.5 sacks in 3 yrs.

What does "franchise player" mean to you? Because when I think of those words I think of a player that a team couldn't win without. And that just doesn't come from a left tackle.

And KC has a pretty darn good O-Line already.

Yeah, they have the money to extend/franchise Albert, who is a great player. I agree that they should go after Alex Smith and model themselves after SF. They have a ton of talent on defense (Hali/Houston are a great OLB duo, DJ is a good ILB, Flowers if a very good CB, Berry has talent). They also have a great running game. Let Charles and another RB pick up carry the team while Smith manages the game. They should pick up Werner with the first pick since, I'd imagine, they plan on going with Poe at NT in the future. Werner could develop into their Justin Smith, making Hali's job even easier and helping the defense make the leap. I know he's not the prototypical 3-4 DE size right now, but he played at ~275lbs the year before last and lost weight to improve his speed. He's still strong as frick and I think he can get to that 265-270 range. Maybe Lotulelei would be more appropriate for the 3-4 DE, but I think Werner is the best player in the draft.

LT is the 2nd or 3rd most important position in football behind QB and maybe RDE.

The validity of the argument that mock drafts after the combine are pointless as well is just as strong as before the combine.

If they're determined to go Defense their best bet would probably to move back, gather picks and replace the 2nd. One player isn't going to change this defense.
