This is a thread about bands that sucked live so hard that you stopped listening to them.

Here is my list
- Neon Indian - I really liked their EP, and first album. I saw them live at a festival, and they sucked. But it was windy, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt....saw them live again in a venue and they still sucked. In fact, they sucked more inside.
- Sleigh bells - I was never a giant fan but the wife really liked them and I enjoyed it. Wow, that was possible the worst show I have ever seen.
- Passion Pit - same story as neon indian. First time I saw them live was at a festival and they blew chunks. Worst show of the 3 day festival by far. Then i saw them again, not at a festival and they still sucked.
- Interpol - They didn't really suck live but they were rather boring and it sounded just like the album. I still have them in light rotation.

who you got? I am sure there are a few others that I am forgetting.

One band I saw 3x and all three times were bad but I still love is pavement. Their live act just didn't hold up to the album.

I've heard this many times.

Pinback - I still enjoy their albums, but after seeing them live, I just can't put them on any upper echelon. Really pedestrian show. Judgement Day absolutely rocked Chelseas, then Pinback brought an hour and a half of boredom. It also didn't help that Rob gave me the stink eye for saying hello.

None.

I really like Smashing Pumpkins, but live they were blah, never made me stop listening to the CD's.

Wow. I think they are one of the three or four best live bands I've ever seen.

Hmmmm...

The Walkmen were especially terrible live. Just a boring damn show.

I never really liked Yeasayer, but seeing them live pretty much cemented my opinion of them as one of the most boring plans ever conceived by man.

While I still like him, I've never been more disappointed in a show than Elton John. I was expecting big things, and he was not good at all.

MGMT and The Strokes

That really sucks to hear. I've seen both of these acts and they were really great shows. Saw the strokes in '05 when they just came back from Mexico and it was so much fun. Saw MGMT a couple years ago and Tame Impala opened for them back when no one knew who they were. Where did you see them and what didn't you enjoy about these shows?

I have a lot of friends that would rathe rset themselves on fire than sit through a Jay Farrar set, although they like his music. I don't share that sentiment, but understand why...

Probably the band that I have seen the most that have more underwhelming performances is Yo La Tengo... I still love their music and have seen some great sets... but have sat through some very boring ones...

As far as hating a band after seein them... there have been a few bands who were just assholes on stage that tirned me off of them but Im having a hard time recalling their names now...

I liked MGMT and the strokes when I saw them live. The strokes set was freaky short though, only like 30 mins which annoyed me.

Yo La Tengo live was decent but not incredible. It didn't capture the feel for their albums, but they didn't "suck"

Same here... the first couple of BR shows at the old Chelsea's pre-Isbell... Cooley broke his guitar in 1/2 within the first song and next to Two Cow Garage, were the loudest band I've ever heard at the old place...

Love this venue, however I am biased. I really hope people don't come in here bashing bands because they caught one of their shows at a festival. Only certain bands thrive in a festival environment imo.

FTR, i still listen to both bands, but I don't have the same love that i once had of them.

i saw the Strokes at Jazz Fest 2 or 3 years ago. julian just came off as a huge prick, barely spoke a word outside of his lyrics. that was after coming on 15 minutes late and playing a pretty damn short set. it was just really disappointing. they sounded fine, but the show itself was shite. just my opinion.

MGMT was voodoo a few years back. funny enough, their set cut interpol's short...interpol was going to play a few more songs, but because MGMT was ready to go on the other stage, they pulled the plug on interpol. and mgmt just didn't sound great. the music just didn't translate well live, IMO.

I really hate the fillmore, in fact, I try not to go to shows there. Maybe one or two a year, and they have to be a draw. or free tickets. Free tickets will get me anywhere.

I try not to judge a band solely off a festival performance, unless they knock my socks off. I gave passion pit and neon indian another shot, as I mention here.

I'm kind of the same way...

I remember seeing DnC one time (not my favorite band by any means)... And you can tell the crowd was just waiting for them to play Straight To Hell... and they did, but reworked it as a reggae tune... I was like, what the frick is this crap!?!

edit: I understand playing a song show after show and tour after tour can make you hate playing it...

its too big and the sound sucks.

The ogden is the largest venue I frequent, and I have to relaly like the band to go see them there.

Much prefer the venues that hold like 200 ppl vs 750+

I absolutely agree that smaller venues are where it's at, but for the bigger acts that play at larger venues I think the Fillmore is up there.

I'd probably have a sour taste if I saw those two at a festival as well. Too bad neither of these bands are touring anymore.
