I really want to see it, but I've never liked Sean Penn. It's really making me want to wait til I can Netflix it on DVD.

a friend got to view an early screening of this in NY and said it wasn't bad, but was disappointing considering the caliber of actors attached. he said that Gosling is "trying way too hard".

i was excited when i first saw it, but as i saw more commercials, i lost hope. emma stone is there just to be love interest, and gosling is trying too hard as usual to be badass. he's starting to fall into Denzel territory where he plays the same character over and over

also keep in mind that the guy who directed this film (Ruben Fleischer) has a short resume of directing that consist of (in most recent order) -

Escape My Life (TV Series)
30 Minutes or Less
Funny or Die Presents... (TV Series)
Zombieland
Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis (TV Series)
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (3 Episodes)

so don't be surprised if this film isn't what it should have been.

The previews look terrible. They're obviously trying to go for a stylized "pulp" feel but it comes off as corny and campy.

With the cast they had, they probably should have played it straight.

Exactly. It had potential but they screwed it up and you can tell from the preview alone

I'm not even sure it's Sean Penn. He is so heavily makeup-ed or CGI-ed that every time I see the trailer, I can't get Flattop out of my head.

i'm not a fan of actors that take themselves to serious and you can tell he thinks he's God's gift to earth.

First mistake was the title "Gangster Squad". Just sounds really cheesy, but the commercials for the movie don't seem to help it out much either.

Hard to believe so many legit actors would sign up for a shitty movie

That scene looked awesome in the original trailer, but its understandable that they took it out.

It's a good idea but I had/have a feeling it was going to suck

America is soft. It was an unfortunate incident but if people don't wanna be offended then they should stay home and not see this movie. Should have left the scene in
