Any way to get deleted contacts back from ipad/iphone? (Posted on 1/10/13 at 12:31 pm)
My wife deleted all but a few of our family contacts off of our daughter's ipad. When she went to look at her phone, all of the contacts were gone on her phone also. Apparently both were set up to sync with each other on icloud. She has disabled the syncing, but is there any way to get the contacts back? Anywhere else they would be backed up? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. The only backup that should have had the contacts was one of the ipad from a month ago. We did that restore, but no contacts came back. I guess it's her own fault for not having any backups of the phone.

there are several backup recovery programs online. I had to use one when we upgraded our phone because if you back up more then one phone on icloud it won't separate the 2. As you found out once you delete contacts from one phone while still connected to icloud it removes them from both phones and from icloud. Most of the recovery programs will allow you to use them a couple of times before they want you to buy it. I chose one that worked but I don't remember the name of it. Just look online. For iphone contact recovery programs. You need one of these because you can't read the files on your computer without one. Just a note. Next time you upgrade just do set up the phone from the computer and don't even bother with icloud.

This is horrible advice.

This is simply not true. Maybe if the phones are given the same name it will, but not otherwise. Source: I have 3 separate iPhones, 1 iPad, and 1 iPod touch back up in iCloud currently.
ETA: Also, Best thing to do is have your separate iCloud accounts for you and your wife. You can still use the same iTunes account on both devices. It's not like it costs anything to set up a separate iCloud account.
