Or has enough time passed for hipsters to drop their spite for Only by the Night?

I'm listening to Because of the Times right now. Just a really good album. OBtN was fine, too.

And, no, I don't care about their post-fame attitude.

It's not spite. It's just that they went from being a really good, sleazy rock act who churned out some scorching tunes to this bland, generic, beiger than beige act that has all of the emotional punch of a Starbucks commercial. They are an entirely different band.

Modest Mouse got popular and stayed awesome. It's not impossible.

Funny enough, I was actually listening to Because of the Times when I read this just now too.

I thought OBtN was a really good album, so never hated them. Several songs just got way too much airplay though, and got old because of it. I do think that the best tracks though tended to be the ones without regular airplay, Cold Desert, Crawl, and Closer being my favorites.

I guess its possible to like both "versions" of KOL... but I agree with the poster above (Baloo)... I dont care for anything past the first record, except maybe a song or two...

Wilco is another example... alt-country to more of a pop/noise/avant-garde sort of band (i cant really label them)... And I still like them, because their good, though I acknowledge they may have lost more of the country leaning folks..

I mean, that's true and all, but I recall just pure vitriol for them a couple of years ago during the popular success.

I'm more curious as to if enough time has passed for people to appreciate their old stuff and separate the emotional reaction to the new stuff.

Also, I never listened to Come Around Sundown and wanted some general feedback on that.

i never got into them until come around sundown. i don't really care if they changed or shite on their fans or whatever slight they may have committed because i enjoy all their albums. my favorite songs actually come from their more recent albums.

I always thought they were relatively meh. They do put on a good live show though, or did the 3 times I saw them.

I don't think they were ever that hated. Their fans, like me, were pissed because they are getting progressively worse to listen to. Their new fans are thrilled I'm sure.

A few decent songs, but definitely their worst album IMO.
