Should i register my car for 1 or 3 years in texas?

I'm due to renew my registration and have the option to go to 3 years. I doubt I'll keep my car for 3 years as it is 8 years old and my family is getting bigger so the convertible probably isn't ideal. By registering for 3 years, I save a few bucks on future registration fees, but I also protect myself from any tax increases over this period. But the risk of me selling prior to that doesn't make this worth it if I don't get credit for the registration during the transfer. So are registration fees refundable or transferable to a new vehicle? Or is the money gone forever?

If you go online you can renew for 1, 2, or 3 years. I renewed my wifes car for 3 years because it's only two years old.

Maybe it's a county thing. I live in creekside which is in harris, not montgomery, county.

Off topic but do you ever see Creekside getting into CISD?

Are we big enough to afford the administrative roles of an ISD and what would we gain? Tomball does a nice job from what I know. But my kids aren't in school yet.

ETA: are any of the villages within the woodlands their own ISD? I think those in Montgomery are part of the Conroe ISD.

C, I did this a few years ago (multiple year registration) and although it's not an answer to your question, I was pulled over quite frequently because of this. I was totally legal but the different color registration tag was a red flag to cops I guess. I got pulled over quite a few times and it was no problem once they saw what it was but they assumed I was expired because it was a different color than the "norm" at the time.

Maybe something for you to consider....

Money is gone is you sell your car, or some douche totals it. You can typically get money back from insurance if your car is totalled.

No refunds from the state/county EVER no matter what

All of The Woodlands is CISD except Creekside is Tomball. I was just wondering if Creekside would ever creep into CISD.
